Another great Dizzy Dean story is the one from the 1934 World Series when he pinch-ran at first, and the hitter grounded a double play ball. The relay conked Diz on the head and knocked him out cold.
He was taken to the hospital for x-rays and later commented, “They x-rayed my head and found nothing.” 🤣
