I think this will end up being a team friendly deal, but we will see. Now I wonder what they do with Walker, Herrera, Winn and possibly McGreevy.
Whoa, this guy challenges Stanek for the longest hair on our club.
Why is it only pitchers have the hippie hair? You never see a position player with it. Maybe it just does not work for position players, whereas for pitchers the way it flies out when pitching can be sort of dramatic – maybe a little intimidating.
I still like the game and watch it. But it was better when the leagues were autonomous. Now with MLB one big league, the game does not have the sense of “our league is better than yours” like it once had. I still have a vivid mental image of my mom’s parents visiting us in the summer of 1970, and me, my dad and my grandpa all watching the game. Pete Rose bowling over Ray Fosse…man, that was classic. Real hard-nosed baseball.
But I tell ya, I liked that game last year where they had the three guys square off in a home run contest to decide it. Real rogue, but I thought it was cool.
I don’t want Walker in the home run derby. He just seems like a guy whose mechanics are still a work in progress, and the derby would mess him up.
Maybe I am wrong on that. Who knows, maybe it would help him as he would need to focus on contact and launching the ball.
But my gut instinct is don’t mess with him. Maybe in a year or two he can participate, but not now.
Din-din here are fabulous fish tacos. We took breaded fish sticks, and Cole slaw, guacamole, and mango salsa and set it out. Fill up soft corn tortillas and squeeze some lime juice on and you got a refreshing tasty din-din! Tortilla chips to round things out.
I grabbed a cold, frosty one to wash it down.
…and we have Burly. An interesting situation as his value is real high right now, and he still has two years of team control. I think he is a big part of our team’s chemistry as well. But then he is kind of a platoon player. If we could get a haul for him, or a highly touted youngster he would be a guy I would not be afraid to let go.
Pretty sure May won’t be a Cardinal in August; and Stanek won’t stand in our pen at that point either. And we will likely see Jo Jo get back to Philly, or some other location not named St. Louis.
The mathematical possibility is still there for post season, but you get the sense that we are so far inferior to the top teams that we would be a quick 2 and out in a post season opening series. The watered down playoffs do give more-or-less average teams that hope though.
Well as was said on yesterday’s game thread, the hopes for a surprise run at a post season berth this year are likely dashed. Still a lot of great moments over the first half, although we were benefiting from our share of good fortune.
A lot of baseball left to be played and theee will be some fun times ahead. But overall it will be more of an audition for future success than a work towards this year’s prize.
You have to hand it to the Brewers organization. They have really put together a great club, with a terrific manager. I hope they can get past the Big Blue juggernaut this year and get to their first World Series since we knocked them off in ‘82.

Good point on May. Looks like his pitches have a lot of movement. Might want to take advantage of that and stretch him to, dare I say, 80 pitches??
During the ‘90s the Rockies sold out a lot. I went to the first home game ever in ‘93, the game where Eric Young lead off the bottom of the first with a home run, and there were over 80,000 in attendance. That was at the old Mile High Stadium where the Broncos played.
They are a bit like the Cardinals this year in that they have a fun team to watch. A bunch of young scrappers who hustle. And the ballpark
area is a fun place to be for the young folks.This area has always been a big sports center. If there is a competitive team the people
will come out.Looking at the stands on these broadcasts and working a lot of Rockies games, I got to thinking “It seems the Rockies draw better than the Cardinals.” I looked it up and they are drawing better, but it’s close.
The Rox are averaging 28.4K per game and the Redbirds 28.1K.
Fermin, or the “Ferminator” as they call him, seems to be slowly working himself into a regular job.
The fan voting is part production and part popularity. It’s great to get the fans involved but you have the popularity part to deal with. There was that year back in the ‘50s when the NL team was 7 Reds and Stan I think. But management stepped in and overruled most of those elected.

I guess these days if you pitch a complete game then you are considered having a heavier-than-normal workload.
Brebbia looked real good in his first outing, but then not so much. Man, too bad about Helsley. He looked like a guy we should probably move on from at the end of his time as a Redbird.
I will be scoreboard watching while working the Rox-Giants game.
Din-din is in the crockpot. The Lovely Lady Bike put together the classic roast beef, potatoes, carrots combo. We have a lot of veggies and brought home fruit salad from yesterday’s festivities so I am sure those will be available to round things out.
It’s a hot one here, with mid 90s before we are done. Given that and the fact that I am working the game I will be ready to scarf down din-din and relax this evening, thus a cold, frosty one will likely taste real good as the beverage.
Sometimes those Peacock games are on NBC, so check that Rats. If not, dial in John and Ricky on KMOX and kick back like the old days. Or if you have a few tasks that need attended to, listening to the game while getting stuff done is a great win-win.

Yeah, the two ex-Cards Sonny and Willson are tearing it up. Sonny at 10-1 with a 2.61 ERA for a sub-.500 team. Willson with 19 jacks and already has accumulated 3.5 bWAR. Add those two back to our club and we might be right there with the Crew. But Contreras would put Burleson in left field, which early on might have also been a plus as his bat would have helped a lot.
And I am not sure how much the Monster is helping him. Sonny though – man, he would be a nice presence.
Great movie! Durante literally kicks the bucket as he utters his last words.
Did not see the game but watched the condensed versions this morning. That fog looked really intense for awhile. You could read the players lips saying, “We can’t see.”
But in the end we saw a shutout. Can we bring the brooms today? Tough to do, but it’s been done.
