Well, it seems to be unfortunate that Liberatore is starting the rubber game of this series but – you never know. Maybe he’ll throw a gem.

C Pedro Pages RIt remains to be seen whether JJ is 100% or not. It feels like a bit of a Hail Mary for the ROY situation. But if he can put together a hot last 10 games and get his average over .250, get to 20 HRs, close the OPS+ gap on Stewart a bit (currently 105 to 122), and perhaps find a way to get to 6 WAR, while Stewart stagnates over the closing stretch, then perhaps he can sneak in and steal the award (and the valuable pick) away. We shall see. I’m hopeful that he can do it.

Not a comment on the game yet. Not that it really merits much comment. Libby was ok. The offense has been very bad with only 2 hits in a game they trail 1-0 in the 7th.
Pugs favorite catcher just singled into rightcenter with two outs in the 9th to tie the game 4-4.

Cards go 1-5 versus the Giants this year, and four of the five losses were by one run.

I was at a SABR luncheon during the game, wearing a Cardinal shirt (no hat 😆). Most of our members feel there will be some games lost to the CBA impasse next year. Hope not, as that is a lose-lose, but it’s happened before.
Idk where we are at for inning as far as relievers go. My guess is 3-4 of these guys are either already at or past a career high. Riley has done what he can but my guessis he needs the offseason to build up some stamina on that 185lb frame.
And yet another win-able game thrown in the toilet by the bullpen. As soon as O’Brien gave it up on his first pitch, I admit I almost foresaw this and was totally disgusted and switched the radio off and went on with my work. Way too many times this kind of stuff happens.
I do like that this team is able to keep making comebacks late in a game, that bodes well. If we play a normal schedule next year, I can see us finishing 5-10 games over .500. Whether that reaches play-off territory or not is not of prime importance to me, I’d like to see a winning record though. That will mean this year wasn’t some kind of fluke where we happened to win enough games to look presentable while in a rebuild.
Now–that’s all making the assumption that the bullpen will get a couple much better arms out there–either developed or hired. They have given up way too many games. Our starters appear serviceble, maybe somebody will get a little better and become that stopper every team needs. It’s good for morale.Bling asked:
How did Wetherholt look?
His first at bat his timing was not there. He struck out in the first, and flew out to center his next two at bats. He was removed after that 3rd at bat with no mention at the stadium if he was hurt. Since he just came off the IL, it was probably planned all along.
One other cool thing that happened while at the game was I bumped into a bunch of people wearing Springfield Cardinal jerseys and recognized a couple of them that do promo videos for the team. Almost all of the staff from the stadium (Route 66) were there together for the game! Must have been perk for the team going to the playoffs!
