Having the not-so-late night bowl of Raisin Bran and checking the box of our game. McGreevy again not getting any run support.
The Rox-Marlins game was played in 2:09, so I got home earlier than usual.
I see The Blazer made a couple of errors. With that and a .603 OPS he’s not exactly taking the third base job by storm.
We have been kind of lucky as our run differential is negative, yet we have consistently stayed above .500. The Red Stockings are similar to us on run differential and are 9 games under break even. But then the Guardians and Rangers are also similar and both a bit over .500. If our bullpen can continue to be effective I think we can stay at least around .500, but realistically we need to start scoring more than we give up if we expect to hang with the big boys.
Cubs are getting hot again and might put us essentially out of any realistic division title hopes this weekend, if we aren’t already, and dampen our wild card aspirations.
Hoolie gave us solid second base play for a decade. My favorite Cardinal yearbook is the 1964 one with our All Star infield on the cover.
Working tonight’s Rockies game August those red hot Marlins. Those ‘Lins had the best record in MLB in June.
No din-din tonight; have my game snack ready of an apple, grapes and a granola bar. Will have the usual late night bowl of Raisin Bran when I get home.
‘67 was magical. I have the highlight record and as a kid listened to that so many times I could pretty much recite it.

I was in our local Lowe’s yesterday and a guy had an old school Angels hat on – it was the original style with the interlocking “LA”, two tone with the halo on top. I told the guy I think that is still their best cap design and they should go back to those.
Libby did indeed look impressive in escaping that second inning jam. His issue as we all know is not going deep into games. Inconsistency.
I worked a couple of Braves game early when they played out here. Was outside the visitors clubhouse and saw them in the tunnel. I tell you, Ozzie Albies is really built. He looks like a short running back seeing him in shorts and a t-shirt.
Din-din here was leftovers. A chicken and vegetable mix along with a big tossed salad that included avocado and salmon.
There has to be some correctable mechanical flaw in Libby’s delivery with all those pitches up and away to righties. Seems like that can be fixed.
Those Braves uni’s are a great look. As a kid collecting cards I loved those Milwaukee Braves uni’s with the tomahawk. They were my second favorite behind our classic birds on bat.
Then the Braves watered them down taking off the tomahawk, and eventually went through a lot of changes before going back to the classic style.
Yeah, Harry was one of a kind. Never heard him on Hawks broadcasts. In Casper, WY as a kid in the ‘60s I could get San Francisco Warriors game with Bill King and Hank Greenwald.
Harry should be in the Cardinals Hall of Fame. Why he is not puzzles me. He was Cardinal baseball to millions of midwestern, western and southern fans for 25 years.
Those Bravos were looking as good as any club until the last few weeks. They have stumbled on to a stretch of mediocrity.
Our TV announcer Mr Caray worked for the Braves for awhile, as did papa Skip. Skip was the St Louis Hawks announcer and went to Atlanta with them in the late ‘60s and remained there. Chipper is back in the Midwest though and we are happy to have him.
The losses are starting to mount up as we regress more towards our expected record. Let’s hope we can rebound and find the magic again, although this downward trend is not surprising.
Trout has also been injured a lot after a great start to his career. Still has some impressive numbers, but misses a lot of games.
Rendon is probably one of the two worst free agents signings in history, with the Rockies inking Kris Bryant the other. This new Rockies GM looks like he will be a good one though. Things already look like they are on an upswing.
Herrera has been getting plunked a lot this season. Speaking of Ron Hunt, Steve Carlton was a guest of our local SABR group quite a few years ago. He got the inevitable question, “Who was the toughest hitter you faced?”
Carlton said (paraphrasing), “The guy that gave me a lot of trouble was Ron Hunt. I could never pitch to that guy – he would be all over the plate and if I tried to pitch him inside I would hit him, and if I went away he would dunk one just over the infield.”
Not sure we even got a ball out of the infield until late in yesterday’s game. That kid Meyer looks like a good one.
Pallante has pitched well of late. Let’s hope that continues and the bats wake up.
Same here with Mo as far as being surprised he got back into the game so quick. But the Angels obviously made him an offer he could not refuse.

Typical McGreevy game – he keeps us in it but we never seem to score much in his starts. Nice work after the first.
We generally put pepperoni and Kalamata olives on our mini-pizzas. Now and then green bell pepper. We use the Stonefire bread, pasta sauce, Italian seasoning and mozzarella cheese. They are super easy and yummy!
We’ll throw together a tossed salad as well.
Gonna hit the gym first, then din-din and some Redbird baseball.
The ‘Lins are a club pretty evenly matched to us. This starter looks like he will be handful as gscottar mentioned, so the betting line probably favors the men from Miami.
Think we are making homemade mini-pizzas tonight, but at this time I am not 100% sure.
