Din-din for us will be at a San Francisco restaurant. We are going to see about hitting Chinatown this afternoon so maybe a place there.
Meanwhile be careful with this Rockies club. They get after it and are a lot like our team, but not quite as talented. We should take two of these, but another factor could be that the Rox played at home Wednesday afternoon and were off yesterday. We played a late game and then had to fly to Denver. We might be a little weary.
Thanks Bling. Thought it was probably something like that, but have been so busy lately I have not kept up with our club as much as usual.
Ironically I won’t see any of these games in Denver, but will catch two in San Francisco.
And I had buddies that had tickets to two of these games for me. We were going to meet up at the Silver Bullet bar inside the stadium for $3 beers. 🍻. But alas the Lovely Lady Bike put together a San Francisco vacay. 😁
Whatever happened to Pallante? Seems like he has not pitched in a month.
Regarding the semantics of the word “success”, you first have to define the goal. While you always want to win more than you lose, there is also a viable goal to build winner over a number of years. You realistically know you won’t necessarily win today, but are on a path for future “success”. Just like in life – I tell the kids and grandkids it’s not who or where you are today, it is where you are going. Make sure you do things consistently so that tomorrow will be better than today. Or to put it succinctly, invest in yourself.
To wrap it up, maybe the way we look at this is, “are the Cardinals on a pathway to success?”
As most have said, with detailed analytical breakdowns by player and position, I think we are and as part of a longer term goal I would classify 2026 as “successful.”
I need to watch Baez more and see his approach. Seems to be a little out of control from what some others have said.
Watched the condensed game while on the treadmill for my morning workout. Nice to see the offense go crazy folks.
Baez with an odd hit line. I think he has 9 hits and 6 are homers.
Also watched a recap of the Cubs loss to the Crew. And to top it off even the lowly Rox got one in the victory column. Good outcomes yesterday.
Pham with nine lives. I am rooting for those Sox to win the ALC. Am glad they added a former Cardinal as that will keep me eyeing their scores and hoping they accomplish what would be quite a turn around.
A west coast excursion, with a slight detour back here before heading west again. I will be in San Francisco this weekend and will miss the games in Denver. But have tickets to the games next Monday and Tuesday in the city by the bay. Will be my first visit to the Giants home park. Love the way it looks on TV so am excited to add it to the list of parks I have seen games in.
Three hits won’t feed the bulldog. Let’s see if we can quadruple that total on the morrow.
Man, I recall a trip my buddy’s dad set up for me and my good friend back in ‘72 when we were teenagers. We saw the Pirates and Phillies – three games each. The Pirates were fearsome then; defending champs. And they had some former Cards who were key members of their club including Dave Guisti and Nellie Briles.
I believe the Bucs won two of three, and then the Phillies behind Steve Carlton shut us out.
Great times, but not for the Cardinals.
Bucs boot three in a row, looking like our old guys softball team. Unfortunately they had the best batter in perhaps all of baseball to bail them out in Gorman, who actually hit the ball on 0 and 2 but a shallow pop up. Baez followed suit and we get only one out of it.
Gassy has looked good. His delivery reminds me a bit of Jason Motte in the way he kind of “shot puts” the ball from his ear. A bit of a short-arm delivery.
Din-din here will be German fare, as we are hitting a local a brew pub after our gym work out for schnitzel and other such offerings and a pint or two from the German water wagon. 😁
OB has mostly been good for us, but he is a bit like the box of chocolates in the Forrest Gump movie – we never know what we will get.
Mason Miller on the other hand is consistently lights out.
Another day, another game blown. Oh wait, we held on – snapped the five game losing skid.
I watched a little, but had stuff to do around here so mostly dialed up the radio broadcast. Nice to see the Blazer crank one. Did not really understand the Urias signing – did in that Gorman was not exactly a known quantity, didn’t in that we are in a rebuild mode so why did that matter. But he helped today.
Good comments all. Over the last theee years team values on average have increased by a greater percentage than average player salaries. Thus management is incentivized to keep the status quo as much as possible, while labor will want to move towards getting more of that increase in value.
Now averages can be deceiving. Just like in personal wealth these days, the average team value increase in MLB is heavily weighted at the top. Thus management also has members that want the chance to tap into those value increases.
And it takes two to tango, so we should see some movement towards a little more revenue sharing. But the players are going to need something, and a salary cap is not going to fly. The players will never agree to give up benefits so that management retains all the rewards.
A nice try last night after it looked like yet another blowout. The early 7-0 deficit had us outscores by a 26-1 margin over the last 12 frames. But we sucked it up and made it a contest. That was the kind of game we would have likely pulled out of the fire in the first half when we were sort of charmed, but reality bites.
When Kitty came in the Lovely Lady Bike saw him and said, “That is some beard that guy has.” I don’t see how you can play sports with a beard like that, but I guess pitching an inning here are there you can deal with encumbrances.
Speaking of hair, between Gassy and Stanek we can probably supply enough strands to make a dozen toupee’s. Those guys keep Proctor & Gamble’s stock healthy with all the hair products they consume.
I have a cousin that lived in Chicago for a few years and is a Cub fan. They were at those last two games in Phoenix, so they saw their club go 0 and 2.
On the din-din front, leftover Italiano food here as we have two different pasta dishes that need to be taken advantage of. No complaints. 😁
I think Herrera is probably a better hitter than he has shown this year. Whether Burleson and/or Walker have peaked or they continue to be productive remains to be seen. I think Burly will stay at this level for a few more years. Walker should get better, but I am not totally sold on him yet. He still gets beat at times on balls on the outer half, but has certainly made great strides. JJ should get better.
Gorman is a bust – way too many swings and misses. Crooks has not looked good. Church and Fermin are okay – could be valuable to a roster with a little more production.
So we have three guys that are pretty good. Just need them to keep it going and two more to take the next step and we can make it tough on opposing hurlers.
If Baez does become say a 3-4 WAR MLB player, then man the Mets management will really be getting bashed. They gave up Crow-Armstrong, and then Baez.
That will be about like how Mo was getting roasted for his jettison of both Arozarena and Garcia, when both were all stars. Since then they have both come down to earth a bit, but our main return, Liberatore, has not exactly blossomed.
Always an in-exact science. The problem is that humans cannot be programmed to behave in the same way. So you look at prospects and try to put in all these variables that show the likelihood of future success, and sometimes things turn different.
Just finished Felipe Alou’s autobiography and he says it pretty simply – basically that the kid you see at 19 years old may look a lot different at 23, or 25 – sometimes for the better, sometimes not.
Could be worse. Out here Rockies fans are annually rooting for the Rox to just not lose 100 games or more. 😄
Yeah jnevel, glad I missed that clown show as well. I checked my phone for scores before leaving our SABR meeting last night and was shocked to see it 13-1. Guess maybe I should not have been, but thought even we could not lose that bad. That makes the last 10 innings being out scored by a 19-1 count. Ouch!!
Good to hear Rats. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately if this is another one like Sunday), yours truly won’t be watching as I will be at our local SABR chapter’s board meeting. I am the treasuerer for our local chapter and am thus obligated to attend. We are meeting at brew pub for a little beer and baseball-related banter concerning our local group.
Meanwhile din-din was a big ole salad. I cooked up a salmon filet on the grille a couple of days ago, and the Lovely Lady Bike and I got out all our vegetables – lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, beets, red onions, cucumber, and probaly a couple of other things and put mega salads together, topped with chunks of salmon. Lady Bike used up the rest of the chunk blue cheese dressing, so I used ranch on mine. Oh, and a buddy I met up with last weekend gave us some onion bread he and his wife made – really good stuff. Had a slice of that with the salad.
Regarding the Blazer, I don’t think this audition is a make or break situation for him. He’s only 23 – if he was 28 then yeah. But this was really a case where Gorman was so bad, let’s force feed Jordan and see how he does.
Like bling said, he could use more time in 3A.
