Both teams blow chances to score in the 12th. Going to the 13th. Hope I can stay awake until the end.
This is a very good game. Might go into extra innings.
I think both managers pulled their starters to soon. But I’m guessing the computer wonks crunching the data would disagree. And that’s what seems to influence these types of decisions these days.This will probably be an unpopular opinion but, i would be in favor of using the ghost runner at second in extras in the playoffs. If it is the rule during regular season games it should be the rule for playoff games.
With that being said, my real preference would be to eliminate it entirely.This reminds me of a joke we would use on the slowest runners on my youth/high school baseball teams. We would tell them that you could use a sun dial to record their time to first base.
Here are my predictions as to what the Cardinals will do this off-season.
I’m expecting quite a few trades. Specifically they trade Arenado, Gray, Contreras, Nootbar and Pages.
In return they get one controllable starting pitcher and several minor league lottery tickets.I think they will sign at least 3 or 4 free agents including a rebound candidate starting pitcher, a veteran reliever and a right hand hitting outfielder. The reason is two fold. One it gives the appearance to the casual fans that they are trying to be competitive (rolling eyes) and second it gives some of the younger guys more time in the minors. I then expect these free agents to be dealt at the trade deadline to free up roster space for some of those younger guys.
Glad the Tigers advanced. Now I need the Padres to put up some crooked numbers.
Hopefully tonight the Yanks and Sox defy reality and both lose.One comment Mo made that I haven’t seen mentioned was that the lack of safe parking was keeping some fans away and they needed to work to fix it.

Watching the game and kind of surprised Chip Carey and Brad Thompson are openly talking about how Arenado and Gray are probably going to agree to be traded because the team has decided to enter a complete reset and aren’t expecting to be competitive next year.

The logic of using “we were so close to being in the playoffs” narrative just makes the ownership look like they care about money more than winning. (Which most of us agree is true.) Because if they were that close, spend an additional 10-20 million and boom…you are a wildcard team.

One of the weirdest inning ending double plays I have seen to end the Cardinals second. Should have been a dead ball off of Walker’s foot but none of the umpires saw it. It also wasn’t reviewable so double play wasn’t overturned.
