This second to last home game of the season should vault the Cardinals a little above the 2.2M mark in attendance. In ’82 they placed 4th in the NL at a shade above 2.1M.
Ah yes Dom. One big difference. In 1982 they counted the clicks of the turnstile. I was there a lot that year, and it looked a LOT different than 2025, where they count tickets sold.
They placed 4th in attendance in the NL that season, KCB. I’m guessing I attended approx. 20 to 25 regular season games that year along with game 1 of the NLCS which was a buy 1 get 1 free as the result of the rainout in the Niekro game…Haha!
Cardinals take the lead on a Donovan single. Then Hererra grounds into his 19th double play of the season. That ties him for 3rd most double plays in all of baseball. And that’s after he’s missed about 2 months of play. Only Caminero and Alonso have hit into more. And presumably, they’ve had a lot more at bats with runners on base.
Those were the days Dom. I had a young family and couldn’t afford curtains. But gas was cheap and I would drive down and get in eventually for a couple bucks. If they had a rain delay they opened the gates. If I thought the game was going to start again (back than they didn’t wait so long to call it) I would head down and get in free. I made 1 game of each series most of the time on a homestand. The Mrs KCB of those days liked baseball and would go on the weekends if we could find a free sitter.
I hate to say it, but I hope we lose this game and most of the remaining. The Cards currently have the #9 draft pick slot for odds, but that likely means they either hop into the top 6 or pick at 13. With 3 teams being out of the top 9 and guaranteed spots 10, 11, 12, the 9th team would fall back to 13 if any of the teams 13 and on win a top 6 spot which is actually fairly likely. I’ll be rooting for Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Miami, and Oakland the next week.
Haha…Yeah, we were all a little short on coin and a lot quicker on our feet back then, KCB. Anytime I was in or near the downtown area listening on the car or truck radio I’d steer over in the direction of Busch Memorial for a free one if the game was after the 7th or had a reasonably good chance of heading into extras. And I saw quite a few memorable and exciting endings using that approach. Believe it or not, the Brummer game was one of them.
Poor baserunning in the bottom of the 10th and the Cards lose 3-2. Just as well in my opinion.
Glad to see Mikolas pitch well in possibly his last home start.
Also I had chicken and rice for dinner and central Oklahoma had some thunderstorms roll through but no rain at my house.There’s some important baseball action for the two teams from Ohio as the Reds have vaulted to within 1 game of the final NLWC berth and the Indians have now reeled off 10 consecutive W’s to pull to within a 0.5 game of the final ALWC berth. I’m really setting my hopes on the Reds snatching that final WC away from the Mets.
I’m really pulling for them OSU. One of my best friends is an identical twin and the two brother’s names are Peter and Paul…When we were young kids, I could barely discern the difference until one of them spoke…Haha!
Oh boy, I just now noticed that the Indians are only 1 game off the pace for the ALC division lead. They may very well catch those Tigers who’ve lost 5 in a row.
I don’t know if it was poor baserunning, I didn’t see it. Nootster may have taken a chance hoping to get himself to third with less than two outs. With an offense like ours, I could approve of that. It looks like Leahy came on in relief of Mikolas and let the tying run come around. Off with his head.
