Really excited to see what Dos Santos does in PB and glad to see Padilla on rehab.

Is Shine a righty or a lefty? I’m seeing different things online.

Only I am inconsistent. Shinn is a lefty!

I think Gastelum is ready for the show. In his last 15 2/3 innings he has not allowed a run, with ZERO walks and 20 Ks. Dfa Roycroft.

I’ll be curious if Richardson continues his hot streak at AA. I think he may be rule 5 eligible. But as Brian says, hitters are rarely taken in the rule 5, especially those with a track record of success.

I wonder if we are in a roster crunch. But as Brian says, roster moves are not as complicated as we think. Pozo, Roycroft and Prieto are possible DFAs. I would prefer not losing Prieto though. And trades might be a factor too like Romero, May, and Nootbaar.

Dattalo is about due for promotion, he has roughly the same number of PA’s at Palm Beach as Gurevitch did when he was promoted. After tonight, he is carrying a .398 batting average and .990 OPS.

Problem is, Peoria has more hitters than they know what to do with…

    Can’t say I didn’t see this coming!

06/18/26 – St. Louis Cardinals optioned RHP Chris Roycroft to Memphis Redbirds.

The next question is who is replacing him. Dobbins is well rested as he is Memphis’ starter tonight, but he hasn’t been down for 10 days. Hence, Shuster, Rincon, Winquest, Rajcic and Blewitt all pitched yesterday. My finger points to Gastelum or Mautz, who is scheduled to start for Memphis on Friday.

Mautz seems like the Cardinal move here, since it would not involve a 40 man move; but this is a different front office! Who knows what they might do!

Roycroft has to be about out of rope, but he wasn’t DFAed this time. I guess ineffective depth is considered to be better than no depth.

I agree on Roycroft. Unless things click for him in AAA, I don’t think he escapes a DFA by August.

Mautz was brought up before for a spot start and relieved due to the rainout. I think they will bring up a reliever.

CF64, this is spot on. Isn’t he about out of options?

And by him ‘clicking’, I’m thinking he better be solid for several outings down there before he even gets another looky-see. In fact, he better be flat -dominating- . I mean, the guy must have had something going on for him, he made it up to AAA and got ML call-ups. But something happened. And it keeps happening. If a pitcher can’t get outs at least two-thirds of the time in the majors, he has no value.
Is it possible we can offload him for a low A Rockies prospect? Maybe a high school kid willing to quit his team and take a chance? If we DFA him we get nothing.

In a little more light-hearted vein now: Every time Ollie goes out to make a pitching change, he’s always handing out new defense info cards to the players, we see it all the time and don’t think too much about it. All the managers and coaches do it during their mound visits. But at our house, we sometimes muse that depending on the gravity of the situation, one of those cards might be a bus ticket to Memphis.

Roycroft DFAed. Rajcic to 40-man and promoted.

Interesting that it’s Rajcic. I would have expected Gastelum, especially with Rajcic pitching an inning last night and Gastelum sitting. Hopefully Rajcic has a magic moment.

I also figured they’d DFA Prieto before Roycroft. Roycroft has a live arm and seems to me more likely to turn it around. Shows what I know!

They can still DFA Stanek to bring up Gastelum.

If they would consider adding anyone else to the 40 man roster, who be on the chopping block? I see players with some value, like Prieto. He is pretty far down on the depth chart though. So barring injuries or trades, this may be our 40 man roster. I am thinking Baez is the starting left fielder by the trade deadline because Baez doesn’t have to be added. Now adding Gastelum or Mathews would be trickier again unless there is a trade. And we have Dobbins and Mautz on the 40 man roster

I keep seeing Thompson and Henderson’s rehab return dates pushed back. Now July 1st. I really thought Henderson might help the big club this year. And Thompson help the left side of the bullpen.

Another interesting move could be to promote Molina and release Zimmerman. Unless Henderson is actually coming back in July. Molina has been really good.

Roycroft traded to the Rays for cash or player to be named later.
