Pallante pitched equal to or better than Fitts. Fitts had to pitch better than Leahy or Pallante to supplant them for opening day. But it could easily change as the season gets underway. I’m ok with this decision. I rather like Pallante. I’m less sure about Leahy but I’m ok with them trying this experiment in a season of trials.

If Andre can get vs MIA non-stop, as he was scheduled this ST, he could have an innings eater value this season.

Do we have worst luck as far as injuries are concerned? What I thought we had in depth will be tested. Someone better put bubble wrap around Dobbins and Mathews.

I guess you haven’t been following the Cubs.

Its unfortunate for sure. Someone here must have picked up the Fitts voodoo doll rather than Pallante or Leahy.

Maybe the Cubs have had lost MLB arms, but I would like to have seen where we would be if we had the services of Roby, Henderson, and Fitts of course. Hjerpe might not be a big leaguer, but he’d be a bullpen option. Lastly, Hence was once a top prospect, but may not be a top 30 pick now.

I am seeing speculation that Dobbins will come up during this 17 game stretch that begins Friday. Some versions have him a temporary(?) 6th starter rather than replacing anyone now in the rotation. Presumably a decision would be made after the 17 game stretch. I have not seen anything attributed to anyone who might know.

Do we move Liberatore to the bullpen? He hasn’t been very good this year. Maybe skip him for a start or 2?

I don’t think they are ready to do that. Until last night I figured Leahy was closer to the bullpen than Libby but then Leahy gives us 6 decent innings. They would have to think someone at Memphis is ready to step into the rotation. Mathews is getting better but I feel like they will give him more starts in Memphis. The trade deadline or an injury may force their hand.

I think our playoff chances hinge on our rotation other than May and McGreevy and the offense continuing their success. The middle relief has to be better too. I would add Gastelum. Not sure what roster spot he’d get, but he was unescorted upon in June. I like Graceffo, but he is not a swing and miss guy. Not saying he should be cut, but we need bullpen guys who get Ks when needed.

Does Liberatore get demoted or move to the bullpen?
