Pallante to IL (elbow), Fernandez up. Thus ends the season long stretch with no starters on the IL. Mathews had better strap in.
You are correct. The detailed transaction description in the Matrix was right. It says 38 as of the last 40-man move, Nelson Velazquez off. But I didn’t update the number in the table, which said 39. Thank you for pointing this out.
Good list, jnevel. I haven’t studied this in detail yet, but at first glance, a guy who might be ranked too low in this scenario is Clemente. He leads the entire system in both strikeout and walk rate. Think about that!
There is progress, though. As the season has gone on, he is improving on the walks. This month, 3 BB and 14 K in six innings with Springfield. Yep, 14 of his 18 outs were via the K. (And he only gave up five hits for a .227 BAA.)
Someone might gamble in hopes they can fix the walks because the strikeouts are so good.
We can learn more than just from the stat sheets, as the #stlcards honored nine Dominican Summer League players for their contributions on the field, in conditioning, education and as teammates. https://t.co/r0FfI7df64 pic.twitter.com/KRDXuzG7ua

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds went 2-4 over the last week. #stlcards OF prospect Colton Ledbetter continues to swing a hot bat, with six RBI, eight runs scored and a 1.291 OPS during the period. https://t.co/2efWFHyfZ4 pic.twitter.com/uX7VxBY5Y4

The #stlcards system was 1-3 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield RH Chen-Wei Lin, threw four scoreless relief IP with three Ks. Other standouts: Colton Ledbetter, Nolan Gorman, Tanner Franklin, Rainiel Rodriguez, Jalin Flores. https://t.co/ekzLGVGyJ4 pic.twitter.com/ZS7zMTWNQT

For me, it is been a long time. In 2013, the Cardinals had the consensus #1 system in MLB.
Six players were on the national Top 100s – Oscar Taveras, Shelby Miller, Carlos Martinez, Trevor Rosenthal, Kolten Wong and Michael Wacha.
Right now, they have three consensus Top 100’s – Rodriguez, Baez and Doyle, with Frias and Franklin on at least one list. Mathews, Cijntje and Bernal dropped off, but I would think could come back on.
I will say that the depth right now feels good. But in 2013 they also had Carson Kelly, Patrick Wisdom, Stephen Piscotty, Matt Adams, etc. working their way up, so it is hard for me to compare.
Kinley Rasmus, just the 9th girl to pitch in the Little League World Series, punched out eight over six scoreless innings, allowing just a single hit! pic.twitter.com/mbVKuVAOU1

I have confirmed that there are a couple of earlier Palm Beach IL moves that were missed by MiLB.com. I can’t announce them first, but look for them to appear soon.
I think Campos would get much more attention if he was in a different organization. FWIW, I ranked him 39th this month. There are some of guys ahead of him that probably don’t have the kind of MLB potential you mention.
He and Rainiel might be the smallest catching tandem anywhere, but they can play.
I wonder how Shildt felt about this approach. I can guess he didn’t like it.
Thanks, I did miss Moran. His inclusion makes it even worse.
Per my count, Palm Beach has 32 active players, excluding Honeyman who is on rebab. MiLB.com has them with 33 because they haven’t yet logged Holiday’s promotion to Peoria. Both of us have eight inactives on top of the 32/33. (Being off isn’t easy to spot unless you count every player because MiLB doesn’t list totals.)
Just like me, MiLB doesn’t catch everything happening. At the higher levels, when I have a discrepancy, I refer to the rosters provided by each team when changes to their players occur. PB doesn’t do that and the rookie teams are far less formal.
Many times when a roster appears to be over the limit by one, it is a timing thing that is cleared up in a day or two. But with PB right now, it seems there are some IL moves or demotions to the FCL that haven’t been reflected.
I will look into it.
First-place Springfield went 4-2 on the week, led by top #stlcards prospects Liam Doyle and Rainiel Rodriguez. Doyle has allowed two or fewer runs in eight straight starts. Rodriguez hit .550 for the week, increasing his streak to 11 games. https://t.co/ADh1M5IQZI pic.twitter.com/s1JuneSkdW

The #stlcards system was 2-2 on Wed. TCN’s Players of the Day, the Springfield offense, scored 12 runs – Ryan Campos, 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, and Tai Peete, 3-for-6 with three RBI. Other standouts: Saggese, R Rodriguez, Doyle… https://t.co/0xSsZEymQi pic.twitter.com/laDdy6lweh

August 19, 2026 at 8:01 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #128 thread – Wednesday, August 19 at Cincinnati Reds #316587Well, Stewart is the Rookie of the Night. Not fair to expect JJ to catch that liner just before the HR, but if he had, the game would be tied.
So if the Dodgers’ financial practices are exposed as being improper, the justification for a cap is diminished. Maybe this will help negotiations, not hurt. If it gets cleared up relatively quickly, that is…
Yet, A.J. Preller continues to survive.
Good question, ATM. I don’t know that the DSL guys are coming over now or if they will participate in fall instructional camp at the academy.
P.S. I suspect the timing is more about clearing DSL roster space for late year signings.
Wouldn’t you rather follow a team that has a strong farm system than one that doesn’t? As I said on the podcast, the Cubs can spend to hold it off, but the Reds don’t have that option, sitting in last place with a bad farm system.
The bottom five farm systems in baseball, per BA's midseason rankings:
(League rank, number of Top 100 prospects)
26) Chicago Cubs – 2
27) Kansas City Royals – 3
28) Cincinnati Reds – 1
29) Philadelphia Phillies – 2
30) San Diego Padres – 1MLB farm rankings:… pic.twitter.com/17L3fNI6Vb
