wally, so will Saggese and Prieto. It will be interesting to see how Saggese and Prieto fit into the Cardinals plans. Both seem “blocked” for the time being.
March 22, 2024 at 6:09 pm #244699Shady I agree with you but I believe it will work itself out.I really think the cards are going to be out of it so quickly that they try to trade Goldy and Arenado before the deadline
March 22, 2024 at 6:16 pm #244704wally, if that’s the case. Maybe Gorman to 1B, Saggese to 3B and Prieto to 2B. Hopefully, getting some fairly high level, controlled starting pitching for the future for Goldschmidt and Arenado.
March 22, 2024 at 6:18 pm #244705Yes this year will quickly become the dreaded rebuild

ParticipantLong, long season. Impossible to predict any outcome.
March 23, 2024 at 6:15 am #244719If you are a fan who looks at the team objectively you can see that the roster is pitiful and the pobo is totally incompetent and refuses to change his smartest man in the room attitude

ParticipantWell golly gee whiz, Wally, I tend to look at things a tad differently. I think we have a pretty blasted good mixture of veterans and young talented players with Goldy, Arenado, Contreras, Walker, Gorman, Nootbaar, Winn, Donovan, Herrera, etc.
If that there pitching staff does fairly decently, we might have a pretty darned good season. It’s always fun and enjoyable, IMHO, to envision the possibilities. Just another take on the situation.
March 23, 2024 at 8:49 am #244727Opening Day lineup today. Oli trusts those 9 guys.

March 23, 2024 at 10:53 am #244740I guess we won’t see how Burleson progresses today as he was left out of the starting lineup. (Donovan in LF, Carpenter DH).
Maybe he’ll be a replacement or pinch hit during mop-up time.
March 23, 2024 at 11:09 am #244741Yes it appears that Donovan will be the opening day LFer. Burly and Carp will probably share DH duties, at least until Noot and Edman return.
March 23, 2024 at 11:56 am #244748Two left-handed bats for the DH slot. Sounds typical for this team.
March 23, 2024 at 1:17 pm #244751Correct. And neither one a sure thing.
March 23, 2024 at 1:20 pm #244752BOCfan, please list all the current Cardinals that you consider “a sure thing”. I assume you are talking about hitting ability, currently.
March 23, 2024 at 1:48 pm #244754Given that this is an overfarmed topic about Alec Burleson, I’ll decline to elongate it off-script.
My response to 1toughdominican stands.
March 23, 2024 at 2:06 pm #244756BOCfan, that’s pretty weak. Actually, there aren’t many Cardinals hitters hitting any better than Burleson this spring.
March 23, 2024 at 2:14 pm #244757A clutch hit by Burleson in the ninth. Burly’s .372 BA is pretty impressive this late in ST.
March 23, 2024 at 2:15 pm #244758By this time next week spring training will be forgotten. It is what you do in the big show that most people remember.
March 23, 2024 at 2:20 pm #244760Shady Typed ~ A clutch hit by Burleson in the ninth. A Saggase double ties it. Those two can really hit.
Saggese got the last out.
Alex Iadisernia doubled in Nick Dunn for the tying run. Oli KNOWS that Burleson likes to get thrown out at HP this season.
Good hit by Burleson off the Nats middle reliever.
March 23, 2024 at 2:21 pm #244761True. But I wish Goldschmidt was hitting like Burleson is this late in ST.

agreed, but I would’ve loved to have seen something resembling a pulse from Goldy after his regression last year from the 2022 MVP season. This is concerning, and I think fans have a reason to be concerned. Oli won’t move him out the 2 or 3 spot for LONG time.
March 23, 2024 at 2:24 pm #244763t8ball12, on the call, the Cards radio broadcast announcer said it was Saggese who doubled. I just listened to the replay.

March 23, 2024 at 2:30 pm #244764Gameday had Iadisernia, followed by Saggese in the lineup. They’ve since changed it.

It is certainly something to monitor although Goldy has been a bit of a slow starter most of his career. He is very streaky. Hopefully he will eventually put up big numbers since it is his walk year.
