IMO, this Cardinal team will go as far as Goldy and Arenado can carry it.They need to bring their A games this season.

Cranny, I think Helsley is your closer with Romero and Kittredge as his setups.
And I hope and pray that Pallante has fixed his ills from last season, and whatever he’s coined as his new pitch is more than effective. I can’t handle him being Oli’s first option again if he’s pitches like last year. Having 2 pitches, and neither are effective was his downfall.
Liberatore will go as far as his results will take him…he will probably be relied on quite a bit in long relief to subsidize the short outings from Matz and whomever is off their game that week.
Gray coming back will help the BP alot. Until then, it’s up in the air outside of the 3 I mentioned .
What about Gallegos, 8ball? He’s seems like he’s back on track to being a good setup man.

Boy, I hope Middleton isn’t out too long. He’s a weapon.
Eventually, the OF will probably be Nootbaar, Edman, and
Walker, with Carlson and Burleson as #4 and #5. In the opening series, I’d expect Donovan, Carlson, and Walker will be the starters. When Edman and Nootbaar come back, Donovan reverts to super sub. Carlson and Burleson as the backups. If Winn doesn’t get his act in gear, Edman comes back at SS, with Noot, Carlson, and Walker in the OF.Call me crazy (just not to my face), but I think this is the year when Carlson becomes the player everyone thought he could potentially be.
I’m sure the plan is for Edman & Noots to regain their positions, however if Carlson hits, hits for power, and plays above average defense, he may throw the proverbial monkey-wrench into the team plans.

Carlson has the best OF mitt of anyone on this team. If he can ever hit, it’ll obviously be a big boost for this team. I’ve always liked Edman, but I just don’t think they can win with him as the primary CF’er.
I’m having trouble breaking the old habit of 2 catchers, 6 infielders, and 5 outfielders. I guess the DH has thrown a monkey wrench into it. As well as the legacy factor.

IF – Goldy, Gorman, Winn, Arenado, Donovan, Carpenter
OF – Walker, Nootbaar, Edman, Carlson, and BurlesonIf Carlson has turned a corner, he’s the CF. Noot’s return moves Burly to Memphis and Donovan to DH/2B. Edman’s return pushes Siani to Memphis and Edman serves as 4th OF. (And as SS if Winn needs more time.) I’ve wondered if he thrives more start 80-100 games a year than starting full-time.
For the bullpen, I wonder if Fernandez and King show enough if that would lead the to send Pallante to Memphis to stretch out as a starter. If Thompson is 6th starter, sent to Memphis when Gray is healthy, who is the 7th starter? Right now, I’d guess Rom (when healthy) or Graceffo. Pallante might be a better option.
Having Saggese, Burly and Scott at AAA seems like good depth to me for the year. Siani, Fermin, and Pages would get callups to be backups in MLB in some circumstances.
Gags, good comments. I agree with most. Except CF. When Edman is healthy, he will start, returning Carlson to 4th. Also, I think the days of Pallante starting are over.
Edman may return to Center. Then again, if Carlson takes this opportunity and runs with it, becomes at age 25, the player he was projected to become, it may mean the end of Edman in CF.
IMHO, having both Edman & Donovan on the team is a redundancy. If everyone is healthy , one needs to go via trade.
Then again, who knows when Edman comes back? One month? Two months? All Star Break?
Forgot about Crawford. Thanks for the reminder, Brian. That probably puts Burleson in Memphis, and means there are only 4 pure outfielders on the OD roster. I wonder if the two older guys, Carp and Crawford, are both going to be kept deep into the season. Especially if Winn performs well.
