Nice read, wish him well.
I think the shift theory is bogus. He would have had 42 doubles and 36 home runs in 2018 shift or no shift. He would have had fewer singles is all. His problem is he can’t hit the doubles and homers any more. Facing a shift more often has nothing to do with it.
3/13 lineup
T. Edman, 2B
P. Goldschmidt, DH
N. Arenado, 3B
P. DeJong, SS
J. Williams, RF
A. Dean, LF
A. Knizner, C
L. Thomas, CF
J. Nogowski, 1BBut a negative return is not better.

I hadn’t realized he returned to baseball. Any idea what he was doing the few years after he quit?
An interesting sub plot. Nogowski is getting a lot of looks. He has no chance of being a starter absent injury to Goldy. He is hitting well as he has in the higher MiLB levels. At 28 it is time for him to be somewhere he can get his break. On our roster that would be in the PH/DH role. But it depends on whether the organization is committed to Carp in that role, seeing as the starter at 2B thing is not happening. There is no way Nogo and Carp both make the active roster.
Thanks 1982 willie. I notice in Hummel’s racap article Carp advanced a runner in the 4th with a deep fly to the opposite field. Not Carp like to go oppo. I also notice he seems to have quit striking out a lot as he did the first few games. He walked in his final AB, which says he is not pressing too much to get that first hit. I am not sure what all that adds up to.
bccran, we need to get the whole heart of the order going. PDJ, Goldy and NA have all been quiet at the dish.
It seems that Rondon is getting the looks more so than Sosa.
One of my sons and I go and watch little league games sometimes, just to sit in the stands with a beer and a dog and watch baseball. You wouldn’t believe how hard some of those kids throw. 14-15 years old. Without benefit of high level coaching on mechanics. I often wonder how torn up their arms are getting.
The Cards announcers today talked about some of the rules being experimented with in various affiliated leagues this year. What a travesty. Hitters can’t hit any more so penalize fielders. Runners can’t steal any more so penalize pitchers.
I haven’t seen any so far. Can someone say how Carp looks at the plate?
Can’t play pepper any more (a bat control drill) because of the groundkeepers
This may be the stupidest thing I have yet heard concerning baseball.
How many times have we been told by the metrics crowd that wins don’t matter? Look at all the stats except wins and it will all make sense.
Our record is 2-4.
Common wisdom has to be considered in context. There are only 15 games between now and opening day. During that span the opening day active roster will be finalized, as will the taxi squad. Placement and trac of the next group will be decided. Whether and what to go outside the organization to obtain will be clarified. I cannot agree that each game alone proves nothing or means nothing in this situation even though it is generally true.
Opening day is in 3 weeks. Time for any wannabes to make their move.
jj, I hope he’s not done, but I think he’s done. Happens to everyone.
They have ups and downs, but I don’t know what kind of pitching they are doing what against.
I think this looks like our opening day lineup. Swap Yadi for Knizner and either Thomas or bader.
I was going to say it will be moot if Carp goes 0 for ST, but Sosa doesn’t have any hits yet either.
The field there in Sauget is astroturf, or whatever its called now. Just a FYI.
Appreciate the game comments since I was at work. Happy about CMart and Reyes doing well.
O’neill hitting like a left fielder the last couple days.
Perez is a good example of how the new slimmed down minor leagues will affect player development. He is 22 but its his 6th pro season. After GCL he spent two full seasons in short season, at levels that no longer exist, before making it to the Midwest League in his 4th pro year. How does a Perez get from there to hear now?
Someone here put forward the idea Carp would be used to take over 2nd whenever Edman slides to SS so DeJong could get regular breaks. I don’t know, but its plausible. I’d rather see Sosa get a role. There is really nothing to be gained by playing Carp, even if he is not terrible.
The eyes are the second thing to go cranny.
