.230 hitters can have a slow start too, cranny. He will round into form.
Do we know when the next cuts are due to happen?
When I click My Profile it says “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page”.
We really stunk it up today. Besides a couple guys we won’t see on opening day.
Yeah, as of now Gorman has a couple dozen PAs vs pitching above Florida State League and those are vs spring training pitching. We don’t want to get carried away. I very much doubt he will be added to the 40 man any time this season. If this year in higher level MiLB he improves on his .256 BA and K rate from A+ ball, then maybe some time next year. I really don’t think they will want to add him to the 40 man until he is ready for every day play at whatever position it is going to be.
I am waiting to see how Gorman does above A ball. He is young so he could spend a couple years there if need be.
I wonder what PdL’s pitch count is
cranny it seems inescapable that the other teams have bigger sample size than us. They probably also don’t have guys working on stuff.
It seems clear that DeJong and Bader will be opening day starters even if they continue stinking up the joint right on through the end of ST. Carlson also, even if he is seriously outplayed by Thomas. And also that Carp will make the opening day active roster. It seems that all that about how the bat will be the tell was just ST spew. Or maybe it only applied to the far end of the bench.
As of now there is no one who can provide protection behind Goldy/Arenado. Nobody that the opposition won’t pitch around them to get to. Yesterday the opponent walked two guys to load the bases to get to Yadi, so I think that idea is a non starter. Nobody is going to be afraid of DeJong, O’Neill or any of our outfield fly swatters. Hopefully Arenado doesn’t sour on the organization right off the bat if he is constantly pitched around.
Right now Carp has a higher OBP then DeJong and Bader, and he is out OPSing DeJong.
NO
If those were IBBs that’s about as lime as it gets in a ST game. Can’t tell on the ESPN gamecast.
I agree with Forsch31 that we should be concerned about DeJong. But not just because of his slow start. It is possible that his OPS+ trendline will continue. It has been a down slope since 2017 and could be well below 100 in 2021 unless the trend reverses.
Bader is a miracle. In 1 day he raised his batting average 33 points and his OPS 44 points.
To be fair, he also raised his K rate.
Relax cranny. He bested the Mendoza line by 5 pts in 2019 and you can rest assured he can do it again.
I doubt they have to worry about that mud. I just hope he’s closer to 2018 Bader than 2019 Bader.
O’Neill hit .262 in 2019, so .275 is reasonable. He looks good so far.
I will have to wait until I can see some of Carlson on TV a few times. So far I can find no reason besides hype to think he is ready for prime time. What we know is he hit .280 in the Texas League 2 years ago and hasn’t shown anything so far in ST.
Carp dbls off the RF wall
Shift can’t do anything to stop that.

unior Fernandez’s stock has dropped like a rock in the last 12 months. What in the world happened?
Its like he did a Delvin Perez in reverse.
I self identify as a deep thought thinker and baseball sage.
Brian, I too am quite sure the roster cut down was set long before this game. The thing is, everyone in camp was probably quite sure of it as well. You can’t carpe diem if your fate is already sealed.
cranny, its not about Nootbar. Its about everyone else, and not just now in ST. It is about self empowerment. An army of one.
It is a grave mistake to give guys the idea that their fate is out of their hands. They have to be able to affect the outcome. When a batter stands in with the game on the line, he must be 100% confident that his performance then and there will change the course of history. That it is up to him whether he lives to fight another day. He absolutely cannot stand in there knowing he may well be on a bus in a couple hours whatever he does. Its the same reason you do not sit a guy down in the middle of a hot streak Each time he stands in he has to know he can be in lineup again tomorrow if he comes through. No authority on the psychology of motivation and maximizing performance disagrees with this.
Its about psychology cranny, not about coming up with ways to diminish getting it done when it mattered.
As far as Mo’s quest to discover the next RA, the only candidate seems to be Nogoswski, which is kind of funny, since he is the one guy who cannot possibly get regular playing time on the active roster. Lets say he keep hitting. Then what?
Cutting Nootbar hours after he delivered a game changing blast reminds me of how Matheney used to decide to give a guy a day off in the middle of a hot streak. At least wait until after another game or two, jeesh.
Nogowski keeps on hitting
