Holy smokes. Wish the young man success. We will see what happens.
April 15, 2021 at 4:32 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 12 thread – Wed, April 14 vs. Nats #158163Carp is 35. Mid 30s is where guys who have been good just can’t do it any more. Some can hang on a couple more years and some can’t. He dropped off from 2018 to 2019 (when he was the same age Goldy is now). It doesn’t seem like there is any rational reason to expect he is going to magically rejuvenate somehow. Not in the post roid era at least.

April 14, 2021 at 6:04 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 12 thread – Wed, April 14 vs. Nats #158152An ESPN article says Wainwright is the oldest active player in the NL and 4th oldest in MLB. I guess the AL has a few DHs older.
April 14, 2021 at 4:29 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 11 thread – Tue, April 13 vs. Nats #158081I dozed off at 5-1 so the box score this morning is an eye opener. I am happy for Carp that he got the homer. And since he obviously will be in the lineup a lot regardless it will be great if he starts having some success. I wonder what was wrong with Strasburg.

April 13, 2021 at 12:20 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 11 thread – Tue, April 13 vs. Nats #157971Facing Strasburg is the last thing we need. Pray for a first inning blister.
April 13, 2021 at 9:08 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157961I agree cranny. It couldn’t.
April 13, 2021 at 4:45 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157953Free Edmundo Sosa
Sosa falls into the same category as Bader, O’Neill and Williams. The organization keeps hoping that another year of experience will overcome not quite enough talent.
If your system has not produced prospects that have moved up rather crisply and shown an ability to dominate at AAA, then you either have to go get some talent from outside or hope guys like Carlson and Oviedo can shake off the giant leap in the skill level of the opposition that comes with skipping the AAA step, which is a roll of the dice.
It does not help when you do have a guy who moves up crisply and does show dominance at AAA and you trade him because he is blocked by a money guy flopping around on the MLB roster.

April 12, 2021 at 8:59 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157937We are playing a 1-5 team in our park. Should be feasting. As to Carlson, he is doing what one might expect a AA player to do thrown into the big league. I am sorry to say I expect we will see something like that from Oviedo despite his nice outing. Another AA guy thrown in the shark tank.
April 12, 2021 at 8:50 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157928The 38 year old guy taters one. Yadi the man.
April 12, 2021 at 8:46 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157926Goldschmidt down to .238, he must have grabbed one of the pool noodles out of the bat rack by mistake.
April 12, 2021 at 8:44 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157925Mo’s computer doesn’t like Nogowski any more than it liked RA. Something about hitting .300 at Memphis I guess.
April 12, 2021 at 8:23 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157920Edman fails. Off with his head.
April 12, 2021 at 8:11 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157917We are back to 4 below .200. Williams is 5 points away from giving us 3 below .100. 4 counting Gant, which we are not. Maybe we are going for a record or something.
April 12, 2021 at 7:48 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157915Gamecast says Carp with a base hit to the catcher. A bunt I assume. Waving the white flag I guess. But it got us a run. Hooray.
April 12, 2021 at 7:14 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157909But with DeJong now at .094, one quarter of the lineup is below .100 One third if you count Gant but I am not counting the pitcher so as not to be throwing shade.
April 12, 2021 at 7:11 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157908Carlson now at .200, which is not below .200 so we still no longer have half our order hitting below .200. It should be mentioned that Goldy is down to .250.
April 12, 2021 at 6:53 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 10 thread – Mon, April 12 vs. Nats #157903With Carlson at .207 we no longer have half our lineup hitting below .200. Hooray.
April 12, 2021 at 8:38 am in reply to: Former Cardinals in the News – 2017 to Aug. 2024 (closed) #157864A throw like that you shouldn’t get the call. At least it wasn’t one of those worm burners Colby Rasmus used to throw now and then.
