Tip O’Neill with his third hit on the evening.

jj-cf-stlParticipantArenado over Brooks. Toss up on their backhands. Arenado better coming in and on pop ups, especially in foul territory. Better range.
April 30, 2021 at 8:27 pm #159768Setting aside the other night vs Harper and Gregorius, I still have to believe that Genesis Cabrera should garner serious consideration for “Marvin Miller Man of the Year” honors.
April 30, 2021 at 8:32 pm #159769You know, if that Phillies right fielder hangs on to that homer off Carp’s bat yesterday, I bet Carp doesn’t crank that long one tonight. And it has nothing to do with the possibility that Carp may not have even been given the opportunity tonight.
Cabby looking good! Sets down all 6 he’s faced.
April 30, 2021 at 8:49 pm #159770Ugh! Another walk to the Pirates to start the bottom of the ninth. A four run lead no less.
April 30, 2021 at 8:50 pm #159771
stlcard25ParticipantOk, the only way to lose this game is to walk people. The Pirates LFer is an even worse hitter than Carp. You throw pitches down the middle if need be against hitters like that. No more walks, Helsley.
April 30, 2021 at 8:50 pm #159772Up by four in the 9th and you walk the lead off guy. Man this team is tough to take sometimes!
April 30, 2021 at 8:52 pm #159773Good to see Cabby come back with a solid effort.
April 30, 2021 at 8:55 pm #159774Cards get the win!
April 30, 2021 at 8:57 pm #159775Helsley with a nice recovery. 7-3 win, and the club ends April 2 over .500.
April 30, 2021 at 8:58 pm #159776
stlcard25ParticipantThere you go, Cards! Only one run off from my call. I can forgive it in a win. Haha

jj-cf-stlParticipantO’Neills season stats will JUMP tomorrow
April 30, 2021 at 9:03 pm #159778His exit velocity got watered down some.

His OPS is at .805. .241/.268/.537 line. Could stand to walk a few times more but hopefully that comes if he keeps powering the ball over the fence.
April 30, 2021 at 9:48 pm #159781The main thing about this game tonight is/was Erica Weston on the postgame show!
Wowsa!

April 30, 2021 at 10:01 pm #159782Maybe Ericka has a friend that you could take for din-din at the Gasthof, Rat. Don’t go Dutch if you have any intentions on stealing a smooch.
Nice win by our boys. Now if the meat of our order ever starts hitting, just think of the possibilities.
April 30, 2021 at 11:25 pm #159784Players that are batting 0.090 won’t blame it on injuries, but Carp grimaced in pain twice after his HR, in the dugout. If you have the MLB TV recording, it is at 2:10:00. For the HR, tune in at 2:08:00.
He looked fine on his swing, I guess that rules out oblique.
May 1, 2021 at 5:47 am #159786so cal a middle aged guy playing with youngsters will grimace in pain regularly. Goes with the territory.
May 1, 2021 at 8:48 am #159796Nice seeing Buc batters not touching Genesis Cabrera’s offerings in his two innings of work. Not that Genesis should become a headhunter, but don’t think for a second that his mass beanings vs the Phillies the other night did not aid his effort. When you put the degree of salsa on your pitches that Cabby does and you couple that with the perception of crazy wildness, no hitter is going to get comfy in that batter’s box.
And a few topical notes from around baseball last night: Both players( Harper & Gregorius ) who Cabby plunked, did not see action once again, in Phillies 2-1 win vs the Metropolitans. Gerit Cole (12 K’s) and 3 Yankee relievers, combined for an eyebrow raising 18 strikeouts, while issuing only 1 free pass, in their 10-0 bombardment of Detroit. And J.D. Martinez blasted two more homers(9) with 4 rbi(25) in Boston’s 6-1 drubbing of Texas.May 1, 2021 at 12:16 pm #159812Think Mo may be thinking “Carp contract extension”??
I expect it to be announced later today. 3 years/$40M with a vesting option for 2025.
May 1, 2021 at 12:18 pm #159813By the way Knizner is not playing like a backup. He is looking like a da** good player.

stlcard25ParticipantBy the way Knizner is not playing like a backup. He is looking like a da** good player.
Teams are having a good time stealing off him (roughly twice the rate as off Yadi), but other than that he’s looked about like we expected. Solid contact bat without much pop and below average but potentially average defense if he can clean things up. I still think he ends up as the backup but he’s a step up from the guys like Wieters, Peña and Cruz we’ve had back there for a while.
May 1, 2021 at 4:23 pm #159831
jj-cf-stlParticipantKnizner is using the whole field, spraying the ball around. That adds a lot of value. His balls in play look like it belongs to a lefty batter.
May 1, 2021 at 5:03 pm #159832Pugs:
J.D. Martinez blasted two more homers(9) with 4 rbi(25)
Didn’t we trade him for a pen catcher and a set of steak knives?
May 2, 2021 at 10:31 am #159886I don’t think JD was ever in the Cardinal organization.
