I wonder how long Jordan’s leash is? He’s basically been gifted not only a roster spot but maybe be even a starting spot.
I’ll guess 4-6 weeks if he flops.
It would be such a great story if he finds his stroke and ends up as a dependable MOTO bat.
March 23, 2026 at 8:01 am in reply to: Make your BOLD predictions for the 2026 Cardinals HERE!!! #303076The Cardinals exceed expectations and not only qualify for the playoffs as WC2 – they actually win the WC series before bowing out in the Divisional round.
Jordan Walker flames out early and is sent to AAA Memphis where he finds his stroke and returns to StL after the all-star break to help lead the charge into the playoffs.
Chaim and Ollie are the toast of the town.
Every team gets an all-star every year – even if it’s just a ‘participation trophy’ all-star.
They will have one once July rolls around.
I read some where a few years ago that high level college baseball (like the SEC) is between high A and AA ball.
Do we think that is more or less accurate?
“We have to figure out how to get the best version of Jordan Walker”
This is not the type of thing you “figure out” with a 23 year old at the major league level.
They have the past two seasons to look at for data that indicates sticking him into the ML lineup didn’t work.
Maybe they don’t want him in Memphis taking ABs away from a prospect there?
I am sure they have discussed this among themselves over and over again and have made a consensus decision to start him in RF for the big league club.
If he continues to flop I wonder how long his leash is? 6 weeks? 8 weeks? Then what? Back to AAA and revisit him if he starts crushing it there or – kick him loose if he still can’t even hit at that level?
I think they take ’26 and ’27 to figure out all the internal options they have + really get the farm producing again and then in ’28 they will look at what they have and will be willing to add to their core roster via trades / free agents to put a team on the field that has an actual shot to get to the WS.
I would think we’ll take Mikolas deep a few times…
Fermin, Saggesse – guys like that are just thrilled that be playing major league baseball.
It’s cool but you ain’t winning anything with a roster full of ‘happy to be here’ types.
To be fair, Walker has been one of the the worst major league players for the past two years and ST just seems to be a continuation of that.
But – he is said to be working very hard.
I don’t know that there is a clear cut right answer here. It’s true that he isn’t blocking anyone at this moment but would he start for or even make any other big league roster?
If he does make the opening day roster is he happy, relieved, looking over his shoulder, or all three?
Sending Walker to AA would probably crush his soul. AAA seems reasonable where he can continue to work on his issues without dragging the big league team down.
They need to handle his psyche very carefully as whatever they do with him has the chance to ruin him. Keep him in StL? He’s overmatched and can’t perform. Park him in Memphis? Major disappointment and what if he can’t hit there either? He’s never really torn up AAA in previous stints there.
Walker may be at a point with the Cardinals that he just needs a fresh start somewhere else. If things don’t turn around for him this year maybe Bloom can orchestrate a ‘bust for bust’ trade?
Herrera’s knee issue should absolutely preclude him from any more catching. Period.
I hope this is the last we hear about him catching.
So Gorman looks better at the plate he’s just not getting the ball to drop in?
Hopefully he doesn’t remain so unlucky once the regular season starts then
You can likely find many, many such 20 plate appearance stretches in most players stats over the course of a season as that’s not even quite a good week of games.
Outside of Nootbar don’t we need three guys to emerge? Scott, Walker, Church, Baez, and ??.
If Nootbar stays hurt and / or gets traded are those our choices to man the outfield? That might not even be a good AAA outfield.
Gorman has 3 hits 2 of which are bombs.
Small sample size but after today’s game his BA is under .200
I mean yeah, one 3 for 4 game might right that ship.
I’m not watching the games – is he taking great at bats and just been a bit unlucky on balls put in play?
Gorman and Walker are having absolutely putrid springs so far and as the rosters are cut down they will be facing better and better pitching.
“It’s getting late early.”
What are the odds Baez supplants Walker?
Based on Walker’s last two years and his age (23) I truly do not understand why they don’t park him in AAA for the entire year with all the new enhancements to the minor league player support systems.
Baez is only 23 as well so there is that but each player is different and some youngsters are ready for prime time
It doesn’t be necessarily have to be either Walker or Baez – for 2026 they can just put a body out there if no youngster is ready.
The podcasts are now also on YouTube and are always really good.
Yes, for the Cardinals to be an actual WS contending franchise on the regular they must have a strong, deep farm.
I think Yadi could come back and give us 30-40 games behind the plate, lol.
I neither agree nor disagree with this extension.
Why now though? I guess it’s a real love fest between Marmol and Bloom.
Maybe he’s secretly an outfielder??
Wow – unless Herrera and maybe Saggesse play in the OF – it’s as bad an OF (on paper) as I have ever seen.
Cardinals picked up Ramon Urias? rh 3b?
It’s looking more and more like Nootbar won’t be ready for opening day.
Who takes his place in the above lineup? Church or a late sighed veteran outfielder?
Yeah, the prospects for plate production from the OF looks pretty grim.
Bloom loaded up on pitchers this cycle, maybe he loads up on outfielders next.
If Nootbar recovers to 100% and say Herrera moves to the OF the picture shifts significantly.
2023 was a surprise let down year following Puhols farewell tour and the chase for 700.
I’d bet butts in seats were way less than tickets sold after the all star break.
Not to say that Cardinal fans are fairweather fans because they are not.
The Cardinals haven’t fielded a really good team since 2015. That’s a decade.
The 2022 Division Title was as much or more about the rest of the division as it was about the Cardinals.
Many people, including some on here, could see the results of the rot from within at all levels of the organization. We didn’t have gory details but smoke/fire and all that.
BDW has been cooking up a simmering stew of mediocrity (with a couple of farewell tour gimmicks floating on top) for a decade now. He waited at least a full year if not two too late to implement real changes.
This isn’t high school or even college – it’s a professional business and you get graded on (a) the regular season and then (b) the post season results.
When the cost of attending a game has skyrocketed to infinity and beyond many fans’ puke point – especially for a regional drawing team like StL where hotel & food for a weekend get added to the tab – BDW will get the attendance he and his underlings have earned.
