    Mike,
Well, Arozarena did tweet out Shildt’s potty mouth tirade. He was traded about 2 months later which I expected. (Didn’t say I agreed with the move.)

    Why thank you, C25.

Springfield’s write-up for yesterday’s game took quite awhile. First, I wrote what I was feeling (may have used phrases ‘incompetent boob’ and ‘bloody idiot’). Then I did a write-up that was a tad more professional…

    C27,
As one who does half of the game write ups, I love all Mondays as off/travel days.

We actually had a winning day last Thursday, the 6th. Springfield and Peoria won, Memphis lost, PB rained out.

    A red letter day

So, the decline in baseball’s popularity rests on the shoulders of greedy players. Not the ones paying them those salaries, the ones who signed media contracts that pretty much eliminated baseball on a non-pay channel, the ones who just gutted the minor league system (you know, where folks could still afford to take their kids to a game)? Those guys?

    Ummmm…..no.

    I’ll point out the obvious:
    Owners without players?…… no baseball
Players without owners?….. some form of baseball.

Baseball’s decline has been going on for a long time. The decision makers acted without considering baseball’s long-term best interests. They thought the cash cow wasn’t kill-able.

    Cranny,
What the Capitol Hill Police (or any other occupation) is paid has ZERO to do with the compensation structure within HIS occupation. ZERO.

gscott- I suspect you are correct re JF’s concerns about MLB compensation. I also prefer matters to be addressed privately when possible. But sometimes that’s not possible. We aren’t privy to internal discussions/negotiations so we don’t know what we don’t know.

And any owner who feels their team isn’t sufficiently profitable is free to sell said team.

    Cranny,
I addressed that line of thinking above but I’ll go further here.

It’s a fallacious comparison. JF isn’t comparing his compensation to those other occupations you listed there. Why should he? They don’t apply to him. They aren’t the same thing.

JF took part in the system as it’s currently constructed – arbitration. He felt the offered salary wasn’t an accurate reflection of his performance value. Per the arbitrator, he was right.

How many of you approach salary negotiations with your employer with the mindset of what other occupations are paid?

Heck, we have the all timer of chippy shoulders behind the plate right now.

    25,
Thanks for the best laugh I’ve had in a while. (Agree 100% with your statement, BTW and I love me some Molina.)

C27 – not sure to whom the “overpaid” comment was directed but I neither used that term nor do I think it. They’re paid what the market will bear.

As for the rest of it – that’s in the eye of the beholder.

C27 – re “underpaid”, Flaherty has a talent/skill that is rare, particularly when compared to the general population. Why shouldn’t he be paid accordingly? He’s also one freak/fluke injury away from it all crumbling around him, as is any athlete. I’m 100% in favor of him maximizing his earnings while he can. He thought the Cardinals’ offer didn’t reflect his current value. The arbitrator agreed.

General comment – I don’t find Flaherty immature either or no more than most 25 year olds. (Spoken from the vantage point of someone closing in on the Medicare eligibility age)
