With the Cardinals misjudgment of some recent power hitting players, I wonder if things have gone on with these guys that management feels make them less desirable to keep than other guys? In other words, could it be that Garcia and Arozarena got themselves into some trouble somewhere along the line, and the club kept quiet about it but were not hesitant to let them go.
I have no inside information on that, but it does seem odd that guys who have raked in minors are not given a chance at the big league level. Who knows.
Arozarena might have just been a guy Tampa really saw something in, and insisted on getting if they were going to give up a promising left-handler.
We did keep Carlson, who looks to be a star in the making.
It’s gotten to where you get the sense that whoever is next to be dealt, be it O’Neill, Thomas, maybe Sosa or Knizner, will become a star with their next club.

Well, Arozarena did tweet out Shildt’s potty mouth tirade. He was traded about 2 months later which I expected. (Didn’t say I agreed with the move.)FWIW, my understanding is 40-man roster players are ineligible, which is broader than 26-man, but it doesn’t change the names.

Mo said publicly that the Rays did not insist on Arozarena. Other players were discussed. He missed on Arozarena. And there’s now the possibility that he also missed on Garcia. In the meantime, we’re stuck with a very weak outfield.
To the best of my recollection, Mo publicly saying the Ray’s did not insist on Arozarena has not been proven yet.

Austin Gomber has now made 10 GS as a Rockie.
Overall he’s averaged a GSc of 53, 53.1 IP, 27 ER, and a BB/K of 22/55.The first five he averaged a GSc 46, 23 IP, 17 ER and a BB/K of 19/23.
His last five starts he’s averaged a GSc of 59, 30 IP, 10 ER and a BB/K of 3/32.I keep waiting on adolis Garcia to come back to earth. He keeps hitting bombs and is tied for MLB lead in home runs with 16
He is also second to Max Muncy in WAR among position players per BR
Garcia is slugging 700 against fastballs so maybe MLB pitching will catch onto that soon
FWIW, today Fangraphs updated their top 65 Rangers prospects and Garcia is ranked just no. 24. In the Cardinals system based on our current rankings, it would be Luken Baker – John Nogowski territory.

I’m not sold on Garcia. There’s a reason every mlb team passed on him. He had a 300 obp when he blasted a bunch of home runs in triple A. Honestly just surprised his hot start has lasted this long
Right now Garcia’s slash line is .282/.322/.607/.929 with 16 HR’s and 41 RBI’s. Those are monster two month numbers. Not bad for a player given away for pocket change.
Both Luke Voit and Adolis Garcia weren’t really considered viable prospects when with the Cardinals. So what changed besides the scenery? Did they pick something up on the way to their new organization?
I think the Cards organization dismisses players that don’t score well as far as catch, throw, run tools. So a prospect that looks to be able to hit but isn’t much to write home about otherwise in written off. We could sure use a pure hit guy off the bench right now. Two left feet and all thumbs, who cares.
Garcia is playing center field for Texas. Saw a highlight where he made one of those over-the-wall catches to rob a guy of a homer, and the Ranger announcer goes “Is there anything he can’t do?”
So far he is a revelation. Time will tell if he keeps it going. A drop-off is likely, but still he makes you wonder who in management gave the recommendation to let him go for box of baseballs and game used 1974 Ted Sizemore jersey.
He does have a 1.1 DWAR according to BR, so as far as the complete player argument is concerned, he seems to have some defensive tools, especially considering defense is far less likely to see a regression. Congrats to him on his success though. I’ll always remember him falling around third. It seemed like one of those moments someone doesn’t overcome hahaha

Boy if I’m a ML team, I’m going out on an immediate manhunt to locate any and all players who came from the St. Louis Cardinals system. Almost all of them are kicking major keester. This organization needs to immediately apply a tourniquet to the situation and stop trading and giving away(see Adolis Garcia) their young talent.
Sheesh, that is all we need is Wisdom to join the list of former Cardinals who are bashing at the big league level. The current Cardinal management needs to learn from the many mistakes made by the group that ran the club from around 1968 to 1978 – trust your own system first. The grass is not always greener in the other guy’s front yard.
