No problem Brian…..I’ll have to get one of the world famous Geeks over to check it out….to the tune of about $300……but what the heck it’s only dirty paper.
Wondering if maybe this Altherr fellow of the Phils is related to Tommy Herr in some fashion? My last name is Martin. A few generations ago our family shortened our name from Martinelli to Martin. I’m thinking since Herr is a short name, that possible the Herr family decided to add an “Alt” to their name, making it Altherr. Hard to believe Tommy never hit double-digit homers in a year….especially that season where he drove in 110. Also difficult to envision Tommy in some of those uniforms that he suited up in during the twilight of his career. I can picture Tommy in a Phils uni, but not a Twins, Mets or Giants.
Didn’t know if anyone else realized that, Brian. Pena looks good at the dish tonight. Maybe his hitting light has turned on.

I’m back posting from my phone as the Cardinal Nation suddenly will not allow me to post from my home computer….its that same pink colored notification saying that my reply (post) cannot be created. I tried to log back in, but when I went back again to submit my 5th inning call of the action, it was gone. And that 5th frame was my best call of an inning yet here in 2018…now gone forever. Oh what the heck, everyone seems to disappear when I do PBP these days anyway. Could be for one of two reasons….either posters immediately hit the road when I do PBP OR they are so into the PBP action that they can’t muster the strength to post….I would like to think it’s the later. Well one thing is for sure…..I shall return to the PBP booth soon once again!

Weaver comes back to K the side after yielding the leadoff Santana blast…..we mossy along to the Cardinal 5th in a 1-0 Phillie ballgame.
If it’s our Cardinals it does not bode well for our base coaches…..especially since we hardly ever swipe a base too, BlackHills.
And Carlos Santana does his best Ryan Howard impersonation by drilling one way over the center field wall to lead off the Phillie 5th…….437 is the official tale of the tape and the Phillies seize a 1-0 advantage.

Martinez – Goes fishing wayyyy down under for a Velasquez hook and that’s out #1.
DeJong – Grounds a hot one down the 3rd baseline in which Franco smothers…gets up and fires too late and DeJong has himself an infield hit.
Ozuna – Goes down flailing on one a mile and a half outside! That’s not the eye our team had in mind when acquiring this guy from Miami. You can start hitting anytime now….hitting baseballs are allowed in the State of Missouri, Marcell!!
Fowler – WHIFFS,…….what more can you say?

*CORRECTION…..the Cardinal runner called out for drifting out of the baseline last inning was Pena and not Pham. See, if Brian gave me better accomodations up here in the booth I would’nt commit PBP miscues like that. Maybe a strike is looming???

Pena – Francisco laces a base hit to center to lead things off….sweet!
Weaver – Everybody in the house, including the Rally Squirrel, knows what Luke is going to do here. And as expected, Weaver does lay down a bunt and it’s a dandy….Santana has it and from 2 knees throws it on over to Hernandez at 1st for the out….nicely done kid!
Pham – Grounds it to Franco at 3rd….who misses the tag on Pham trying to take up new residence at 3rd and the Phillie 3rd baseman will gun it on over to Santana at 1st for out #2. Tommy safe at 3rd….wait a minute….the umps may end up calling Pham out for going out of the baseline…..waiting for a ruling……and it’s a thumbs up given which the Cards will take as a thumbs down…..and with Pham being called out that will put an abrupt end to the Redbird 3rd.

Fowler – Lofts a fly to left that will not pose any difficulties for Hoskins….has it for the first out here in the Cardinal 2nd.
Gyorko – Hits it in the air to left!….but it won’t carry….Hoskins has it right on the edge of the track for the out. That one initially looked good from far, but ended up being far from good….like that hot girl you see walking down the sidewalk about a half block away who ends up being a dude….ouch!
Carpenter – Grounds it smack dab into the Philadelpia Shift…..Hernanzez in shallow right field only about 8 yards off the foul line has it and wings it on over to Santana’s waiting mitt for the out.

Bottom of 1. Weaver sets them down 1-2-3 in the top half of this inning. 6’3 righty Vince Velasquez gets the mound call this evening for the Phils.
Pham – Rolls one up the middle, but the SS Kingery flashes over to glove it and fires it on over to Santana at 1st for the out.
Martinez – Grounds it between 3rd and short and out into left field for a base hit.
DeJong – Whiffs hacking after initially being ahead 2-0 on the count….2 down.
Ozuna – Raps it on the ground straight out to Kingera at short who gloves it and then grannies it on over to Hernandez at 2nd to retire the side.

Interesting use of the words “dong and “Audra in the same paragraph, Rat. I like your call of 6-2 Redbirds, Rat…….but, Fowler going yard???? Pena has a better chance of amassing 4 hits tonight. I’m going with 8-5 Cards with both Hoskins and Martinez finding the cheap seats.
That bottom 6 in our order is absolutely brutal…..with the exception of the now slumping Gyorko. I don’t know when the last time was when I was this unenthusiastic about of offensive. Fowler hitting 5th….that’s downright offensive!
Wish the Pirates were 10+ games off the pace. Would love to pry Francisco Cervelli from them. What a fantastic fill-in he would be for both Yadi and Martinez over at 1st.
Not a more inspiring or significant PBP affirmation could be had…. thanks UCONN! I may go where no PBP host has gone, in this one.
Oh so true, GScott. Maybe I’m not a realist, but you have to be truly thinking sweep in every series… no matter where the venue or who the opponent. These Phillies are a vast improved team over the teams Philadelphia has fielded the past few years. But they are sweepable. And who better to beat in Game 1 than our old nemesis, Jake The Snake A.?
And as a quick aside, I sensed extreme sorrow and sadness in Brian’s words with his post yesterday to our wayward pal, Carter, when Brian told him that Pugs seldom does PBP any longer. It effected me to the extent that I almost found myself reaching for a tissue. Well I have some welcome news…..God willing, I’ll be riding high back in the PBP saddle once again come 6:15pm this evening! Be there or be []Back in the good ole’ days, White Sox owner, Charles Albert Comiskey, would have seen to it that Gregerson would have appeared in exactly 59 games… not 60. How times have changed. We never want to go back to those days, but maybe meeting somewhere in the middle in regards to these MLB contracts would be a good thing. From a fan’s standpoint, I think the game was much more enjoyable when the owners held the lion’s share of the upper hand of matters, instead of the players/agents. But that’s a 50 year old guy talking….it’s a new age.
It used to be the case (or seemingly so) where most veteran players who came to St. Louis via trade or otherwise, stepped up their game as a Redbird. Doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Change in team culture? The times? The fans? The money? Something else? Whatever it is, our Cards need to identify the problem and fix it.
Great day on two counts. Of course, our Birds getting back into the win column and Carter’s reemergence. Welcome back Carter!! Sure would have been nice to see Miles register win #6 though. Can’t come any closer to victory with his 4 2/3’s innings. He wasn’t quite the Miles that we Cards fans have come to know and love out there on the hill today. But, that’s textbook stuff from the real good ones…even when they are off their game, they still have enough to keep you in the game. And we saw the happy end result here this afternoon in Minnesota. Speaking of miles, I came an eyelash away from going the extra mile this morning and heading up the road to see the game. I had a 8:30a business meeting in Eau Claire. It was my hope to get loose before 10a, but ended up not shaking free until just before noon. I guess today’s game just wasn’t in the cards for me. Once again, please make Carter feel at home with a hardy “hello Carter”!.
Shucks…..the wifey is insisting that I watch an episode of Mindhunter with her. Pretty riveting series to say the least. Keep me posted on the game, gentlemen, as you’ll be my only connection to the action for the rest of this one.
I bet Flaherty never sees another Minor League park again….unless it’s a rehab assignment. The pitches are mounting though….63 thru 4 now as he finally puts away Kepler. Braves and cubs embroiled in a 1-1 game at Wrigley in the 5th and the Bucs are having their way with the ChiSox 6-0 in the 6th….but who doesn’t treat the White Sox rudely???
