Here come the rains now in Cincinnati. Looking into.my crystal ball, I see the tarps coming out real soon. I don’t know why, but I was just thinking about the good ole’ days in baseball when you noticed that the scoreboard for a given team’s at bat had not changed for awhile. You pretty much knew how long your average half inning took, so if it had not changed for like 10 or 15 minutes longer than what it should have, you pretty much knew a team was putting up some runs. Then you might see the uni number of a pitcher change for this game….and if it changed twice you really knew a big inning was brewing. Then after the inning was over, they’d finally update the runs scored in that half inning. You usually could not find out the details ( homers etc.) until the next morning’s sports page. That time spent waiting…..though a bit frustrating, was actually kind of exciting in an odd sort of way.

Watching the cubs hammer Homer in Cincy in the top of the 1st. The first 5 cubs reached on hits. Leave it up to Schwarber to make the first out as he pops out to the SS. Baez then goes fishing in the dirt for the 2nd out as the score remains 3-0 cubs with runners still standing out on 2nd & 3rd….now there’s a grounder to 2nd and the Reds are going to escape major damage. Bet the Reds never felt so pumped up after giving up 3 runs in an inning. Don’t be surprised if they come roaring back here vs Lester.

Well said CARDSredsox4Ever! And I don’t even know if you can legitimately blame these players for tailing off after getting the big bucks. Most probably work out as often….they just don’t or mentally cannot do it with as much gusto as they did when they weren’t filthy rich. I challenge any one of us here to work (whatever it is….banker, lawyer, insurance, dock worker etc.) with the same vigor if our bank account suddenly found itself 10 million dollars richer. I think most of us would want to do the right thing and give our employer their monies worth……but at the end of the day, most of us would fall short of expectations. That’s what makes the Yadier Molinas and Wainos of the world so special and so few. They have tons of talent, ambition, heart and money…..and nothing is going to stand in their way to achieving all they can in their chosen profession.

Waino, Yadi, Carlos, now DeJong. What are the odds of all these guys going on the DL while the slumping players stay fit as a fiddle. I’m not advocating by any stretch of the imagination that I would ever want to see any player hurt. But these injuries do stick out like an awfully sore thumb. Our 2018 Cardinals are just plain unlucky.

If I had to project Dexter thru the end of the season, I would say he’d finish the year hitting at a .204 clip, with 11 dingers and 51 rbi. Needless to say, but there will be no GG honors coming his way either. William Dexter Fowler…….you either love him or you dislike him (as a player)…..there is no in between.

    Thanks for the clarification, stlcard25.

We have one big problem…not just one or two, but several players need to be lowered in the batting order. We have like five #8 batters and no real #3. This is hands down the least inspiring Cardinal offense I can recall. Offensively speaking, we have like 3 Dal Maxvills, a Dave Ricketts, Julian Javier and then Gyorko, Martinez and DeJong.

And Ozuna puts closure to this one by meekly grounding out yet once again. Do you think Miami would take him back? We don’t necessarily have to get anything in return.

Ozuna representing the tying run here in the 9th with 2 outs. He can earn a lot of lost love back right here with one swing of the bat.

McCarver claims that our offense has been giving opposing bullpens grief this year….I can’t honestly say I agree with that statement. Am I wrong?

I don’t think so stcard25. We could have got Yelich for what we gave them for Ozuna. No way Flaherty would have had to be part of the equation….and no way the Cards part with Flaherty in that kind of a deal. I’ll have to look back to see who Milwaukee gave them for Yelich, but I don’t think it was hardly a kings ransom.

I hear you, BlackHills! I thought the same thing the moment I first heard of the Ozuna acquisition…..why not Yelich??? He was ours for the taking at that time.

Gyorko base hit to left scores Ozuna…4-2 now as Philadelphia will seek some more relief from it’s pen.

Now Fowler follows that up by grounding a slow one to first that results in the runner at 3rd being easily erased at home plate. Still 4-1, but 2 outs now….and you can literally hear a pin drop in the stadium now.

Run scores on the Ozuna lame grounder…nearly a twin killing, but the ball hit a titch too slowly…thank God!

Hit DeJong squarely on the hand! Jack Nicholson he’s not. Call has to be reversed. And it is! Bases juiced with Birds…and nobody out.

Hey BlackHills. I think we’re poised to tally some runs….maybe Fowler is the proverbial sleeping tiger who has just been rudely awoken.

He has to go down at some point, stlcard25. I think you’re right….he could use a bit more seasoning at a lower level for a spell. But you have to love his upside. He’ll figure out soon how to put batters away more efficiently.

Franco up with the bases overflowing with Phillies. Remember Julio Franco? That dude is probably still playing somewhere….and still raking.

4-0 now and Philadelphia is ready, willing and able to turn this affair into a laugher. Still no outs.

For anyone who could remember when Nolan Ryan was a rookie reliever with NY. Are there many similarities between Ryan and Hicks?….and now the Phils extend their lead to 3-0 in the 8th and still no outs with runners at 1st & 2nd….and we’re in trouble now. But Cardinal fans look at the bright side….our offense gets to face Jake A. tomorrow evening.

Cards are in business here in the 7th with runners at 2nd & 3rd with just 1 out, compliments of a Carpenter double that just maybe should have been corralled. Pitching change forthcoming.
