I would prefer rh pitching anyway. If Seattle wants to get better in 2026 without spending a lot of money, there it is.
Of course the Cardinals would not trade Brendan Donovan and Liam Doyle for Kade Anderson, but that’s what it would take.
You kind of confirmed my thought-there just isn’t a path to most teams top prospects.

So they would be giving Seattle Donovan to upgrade from Doyle to Anderson. I don’t think they do that. Doyle had 70 grade fastball Anderson 60 grade. Both 55 overall. Doyle is lh Anderson lh. I prefer Doyle plus whatever they get for Donovan.
If the Cardinals somehow got Kade Anderson from Seattle I would be esctatic.
Just for fun-What does that take? I can’t think of a trade that makes sense. We are in the business of trying to aquire high end prospects right now. So it would have to be roster players. Donovan and?

more likely IMO, they will reopen trade talks at the deadline.
That seems like a pretty fair assessment.
I would be 100% on board with retaining Donovan if they could come to agreement on an extension. But that hasn’t seemed to be on the table.
Who are these new/better hitters, other than JJ, perhaps?
Plus the likelihood Donovan is traded. 26 is shaping up as a “hope” season, and we all know that’s a bad plan.

I think Willie is right about the first 2 and hope he’s wrong about the last. But for some reason I hold out hope Bloom gets some return for Donovan.

I will say this-any good will we can spread around is smart. Treating players fairly is good business. I’ve had both kinds of bosses. I know who got the most bang for the buck out of me. But sometimes tough decisions have to be made.
I’m going by memory on some of this and don’t feel like checking my facts, but last year Mo and co. Lowballed Donovan in arb. Plus whatever rhetoric was involved with their reasoning. Donovan super upset. Later Cardinals approach Donovan about an extension. Donovan not interested. There doesn’t appear to be a path to him being extended. So it’s in the Cardinals best interest to move him anytime between now and the trade deadline. They aren’t competing at least for this year. There is a price to be paid for the life changing money players make. The real possibility of being uprooted from the community they are part of is one of them.
JJ I agree Winn needs to change his approach at the plate, and I think he will. But still, he’s better than anyone we’ve had since Edgar, and that’s a long time. Pay the man. BPOT right now.
