Wrobleski looks like he’ll get 7 innings in. Just six for May. I wonder if we will get a Shuster sighting in the 7th to give some of the other guys some rest heading into the Brewer series.
May 3, 2026 at 1:47 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #34 thread – Sunday, May 3 vs. Los Angeles Dodgers #306553That double steal attempt did not work well.
We’ll see if the May settles in. Three hits in the first two for the Cards, though they’ve only made him throw 18 pitches between the DP and the CS.
May 2, 2026 at 9:18 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #33 thread – Saturday, May 2 vs. Los Angeles Dodgers #306523After being swept, the Cards have won 6 in a row. And in the last 11 games, they’ve held the opposition under 5 runs 8 times. The bad guys’ run total has been 11, 7, 5, 4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, and 2. The Cards gave up at least 5 runs in 6 of their first 11 games and 7 of their second 11. Is the pitching beginning to tighten up?

Yes on that pitch from O’Brien!

I’d think seriously about moving Victor down and Torres up. Victor clearly needs to work on his swing. Having a few weeks to see what Torres can do in the bigs might be prudent in case he is needed later. Couldn’t hurt the offense.
I’d leave Jordan at Memphis. I don’t think there’s be enough playing time at this point. Let him keep working on things every day.
There’s a lot of blue in the stands!
Thanks, Brian! I was waiting for this to compare to last year. I don’t know how meaningful year to year comparisons are, but heck.
There are 11 on the list this year to 9 for last year, but more interesting to me, there are more younger prospects. I arbitrarily selected 23 or younger as “younger prospects”. Better would be age relative to league, but I’m lazy. This year we have 7 of them–Flores, Gurevitch, Rodriguez, Jordan, Peete, Nickens, Suarez. Last year it was just 3, Kross, Curialle, and Rivas. The older 6 were Barrero, Mendoza, Vilade, Lloyd, Torres, and Prieto. That the last two are the only repeaters, and that last year’s didn’t include Rodriguez, maybe means this should just be filed. But I’m instead going to take it as an encouraging sign of things to come.
May 1, 2026 at 10:09 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #32 thread – Friday, May 1 vs. Los Angeles Dodgers #306394Cards now have a positive run differential.
May 1, 2026 at 9:54 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #32 thread – Friday, May 1 vs. Los Angeles Dodgers #306389I think what I’m most excited about with Walker is that he had that cold stretch and was able to keep it short rather than having the bottom fall out for a long while.

The pen does that to me, too.
April 30, 2026 at 4:32 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306291And with Pages on the upswing and Church and Winn, the bottom half isn’t a complete pushover. Dunno what happens when they need to rest anyone other than Pages (who seems to platoon with Urias). Though Fermin is doing ok in his very small sample.
April 30, 2026 at 2:46 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306282Whew.
Sweep!
And the top 4 in the lineup all have an OPS over .800.

They got half of that! So perhaps Po?
With a 6 run lead, I’d try Svanson and wouldn’t be completely terrified of Stanek…
April 30, 2026 at 2:08 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306266I want a slow motion replay of where it landed.
The Pirates are certainly being generous to their visitors!
April 30, 2026 at 2:02 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306264Who gets the 8th? Soriano on back to back days and third of four? Svanson or Stanek, who are better rested, but less effective?
April 30, 2026 at 1:11 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306250Dobbins out after 4 and a third. He’ll surely be sent down if for no other reason than that they will need a fresh arm tomorrow. Mautz is scheduled to start tonight. I wonder if they make Memphis go to a bullpen game and call up Mautz in case they need many innings.
April 30, 2026 at 12:50 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306243Dobbins suddenly loses the zone, but leaves with just one run. That inning might seal his being sent back to Memphis to work on control just a bit more? Or was it due to the mound?

Really interesting catch re Scott!
April 30, 2026 at 12:00 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306236And Dobbins fans two in his first inning for the Cards!
April 30, 2026 at 11:56 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306234It was quick, but I thought Walker’s eyes got very large as he was hitting that homer. 3 runs and 29 pitches for Skenes in the first???
April 30, 2026 at 9:23 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306221Tough for Fernandez after pitching well in the first game of the series. Hope that is a sign of more to come. We can use him. I’d guess that Roycroft will be called up tomorrow.
I was a bit surprised to see all the regulars in. I figured they’d give a couple of them rest on a day game after a night game and playing against Skenes. Ollie wants that sweep….

That was really interesting. Thanks! I was the most surprised at 3B. Winn has .8 FWar, so I’d guess we are hurt there by the backups (especially Saggese). And Burly has .4 FWar, so subs hurt there, too. Our bench is….not good. That the pitching and CF are concerns is….not surprising.
I’m toying with a post about whether we have the positions players present or in pipeline to be really good in 2028, and the question is whether we can get two top flight starters and some good relievers by then from guys who are on the farm. Unsure I’ll have time to do that before mid-May, though! The offense, espcially Wetherholt and Walker, is so much better than I anticipated that I am starting to think the turnaround could be faster than expected. (knocking wood.)
April 29, 2026 at 9:24 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #31 thread – Thursday, April 30 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306205Sounds like it is one and done for Dobbins. Who gets sent out to make room for him and who gets called up when he gets sent back down?
April 29, 2026 at 9:16 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #30 thread – Wednesday, April 29 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306203Gastellum has walked 10 in 13 innings. I’d give him time to master AAA. And I’ve seen some signs of Svanson coming around. But I sure would move Stanek to the chase and use Graceffo and Soriano in Stanek’s place.
April 29, 2026 at 8:56 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #30 thread – Wednesday, April 29 at Pittsburgh Pirates #306197Pallante is on pace for 16 wins. That won’t happen, but he sure looks different from last year.

Could you please compare some of the other players to Siani?
Y’all are making me hungry!
