Skenes going for 27 strikeouts today . . . On about 200 pitches.

Interesting analysis by jnevel. I was surprised Burly was not higher. Masyn has struggled some early but should move up.

The pitching certainly will be the thing that dooms us as the season wears on.

Big hit by Gorman there! I have never understood the trend in MLB to the head first slide. Seems like you risk a lot of shoulder and arm injuries that way. Leg first slide seems to be much safer.

I did get my cleats caught in the dirt back when I was 18 on a steal of second. Really bad sprained ankle – to this day it is still the worst pain I have ever been in. The doc said after the x-ray I would have been better off had I broken it. But major leaguers have much better technique than I did back in the day. 😁

Think I see Scott’s flaw from when he was hitting good early last year. It looks to me like he is standing more straight up and does not have that left elbow out like he did.

He has that left elbow down more, and instead of “throwing” the bat at the ball he is sort of flailing away.

Dobbins suddenly loses the zone, but leaves with just one run. That inning might seal his being sent back to Memphis to work on control just a bit more? Or was it due to the mound?

    Bikemike-

    Really interesting catch re Scott!

That was a fun hit by Alec. He basically half swung and placed it down the left field line. Great piece of hitting – just hit it where they ain’t!

Dobbins has now walked 4 of the last 5 hitters. It might be time to go get him.

And then he gets what would have been a strikeout if we could challenge, but they are all used up. Fortunately, Davis helps us out by swinging at an inside pitch and missing for the strikeout. Hopefully Dobbins can get 2 more at least.

Dobbins looks shaky with his sudden
command issues. Better keep someone ready and not let this get out of hand.

Wetherholt loves playing in Pittsburgh apparently. He is a rising star and I wish they would have locked him up to a long term deal as his cost is going up and up by the day.

Well, at least we know now that Dobbins would fit perfectly in our bullpen as he just issued his 5th walk. That’s a requirement this year you know.

He exits after 4 1/3. Bruihl in. Let the roller coaster ride begin.

Dobbins out after 4 and a third. He’ll surely be sent down if for no other reason than that they will need a fresh arm tomorrow. Mautz is scheduled to start tonight. I wonder if they make Memphis go to a bullpen game and call up Mautz in case they need many innings.

Bruihl on – this thing could get ugly in a hurry. But Ollie had to get Dobbins out of there as he was all over the place after looking sharp early.

Yeah Gags – not sure of course but it seems to me Scott had that elbow out early last year and was looking like he was on his way. He does not look the same to me as he was then.

…Joe Morgan used that arm flap routine to remind him to keep that elbow up.

Someone needs to tell Pedro to stop calling for balls a foot off the plate these last 2 innings.

And the 2 walks come back to haunt us as Reynolds doubles to left off the un-crafty veteran Bruihl.

This Bruihl guy gives me a rash.

And now Pages calls for a pitch to hit Gonzalez. What is he doing back there? Call for strikes Pedro!

If Graceffo holds them here in the 7th, I’m curious to see who has the 8th. Will it be JoJo again? Surely not Stanek. Could be Soriano.

I guess it is JoJo earlier than expected as he relieves Graceffo after the first out in the 7th.

I was thinking earlier about the top 5 guys on this team playing above their general pre-season expectations. Graceffo made my list. He’s been a real stalwart for this bullpen along with O’Brien.

The other 3 would be Walker, Church, and Wetherholt. McGreevey and Pages both get honorable mentions.

With all of these games in a row I would have left Graceffo in and not go to JoJo here.

    You and me both BikeMike.

Jojo gets a k and then gives up a homer. 5-4 good guys now as JoJo tries to finish the 7th.

A walk (because he is a member of our bullpen and it’s obligatory) and a strikeout later sends us to the 8th leading by a hair.

Looks like it will be Svanson in the eighth. His command has been only slightly better than Stanek. Another 5-4 ball game.

Who gets the 8th? Soriano on back to back days and third of four? Svanson or Stanek, who are better rested, but less effective?

Man, how did that ball Church hit not go out??
