And with Pages on the upswing and Church and Winn, the bottom half isn’t a complete pushover. Dunno what happens when they need to rest anyone other than Pages (who seems to platoon with Urias). Though Fermin is doing ok in his very small sample.
April 30, 2026 at 4:45 pm #306293Bling, are you still disappointed in JJ? If I recall correctly, one of your beefs was extra-base hits.
23-year-old JJ Wetherholt is the youngest Cardinals player with a 6+ game extra-base hit streak since 2003 Albert Pujols
The longest XBH streak by a Cardinals player at 23 or younger since at least 1900 is 7, by:
2001 Pujols
1938 Enos Slaughter https://t.co/KAjnALHGiZ— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) April 30, 2026
April 30, 2026 at 4:56 pm #306294Brian, you are observing the bling effect, a strong correlation between me calling out weak performance and the player suddenly shaping up.
April 30, 2026 at 4:57 pm #306295What is happening with Hence btw?
April 30, 2026 at 5:02 pm #306296Don’t get too excited guys.
The Doyers and Brewers are up next.
April 30, 2026 at 5:14 pm #306297Bling – Hence is getting some work done on the side in Jupiter. I don’t think calling him out though is going to help him. Also – Wetherholt was doing very well before you calling him out. I wasn’t sure what you were getting at there. But he has been even better since for what that is worth.

I disagree. He was walking a lot and little else.
April 30, 2026 at 5:24 pm #306299He was taking tons of pitches, getting on base, and playing great defense as a 23 year old in his first few games at the major league level. I considered that to be really good. That’s exactly what we wanted out of a leadoff hitter and second baseman.
April 30, 2026 at 6:33 pm #306300He is doing much more now, as Brian gleefully pointed out. Mission accomplished.
I recently made the mistake of expressing appreciation for Pages’s results at the plate, so he is likely doomed. It is the reverse bling effect. Sorry Pedro.

As I showed at the time, JJ had picked up his performance more than a week before you called him out.
And, why did it take over two years to the bling effect to take hold on Walker? 😉
April 30, 2026 at 7:33 pm #306302Walker was a tough nut to crack. But persistence paid off, for both of us.
April 30, 2026 at 10:13 pm #306307Skenes you say? The 3, 4 and 5 slots with a combined 7 RBI’s today. Those same three slots combined for 9 RBI’s on Tues. That’s the kind of production you expect from the teeth of the order. Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen would be proud.

Made possible by Wetherholt and Herrera getting on ahead of them. And Scott from the 9 hole. A good showing all around.
May 1, 2026 at 8:52 am #306327JJ is 4th in MLB in runs scored and is definitely doing his job there. Herrera is getting on base even more but not crossing home plate as often but that likely will pick up.
May 1, 2026 at 11:13 am #306333As I recall there were some calling for JJ to start the year in Memphis. Thank goodness he didn’t. I would say he has been a nice replacement for Donnie.
