Ooo, Walker not ready for that first pitch. That would have been one to take a shot at.

Hopefully OB has has good stuff. He was a bit shaky last time as I recall.

Sure would have been nice if someone could have pushed Wetherholt across. He’s done real nice job thus far and leads the team in runs scored. I like a player who routinely steps on HP.

What a great play by Wetherholt. Doing it on offense and defense

BikeMike, Wetherholt realtk does chomp the gum. I don’t think I’ve seen him in the field not chewing so big

Wow what a way to end it with a HR steal by Church

The look on O’Brien’s face after that last out…

I thought that was homer off the bat. A foot further and it may have been. Nice play by Church.

Yeah, O’Brien looked like he was in shock. He thought that thing was gone as well.

Pallante is on pace for 16 wins. That won’t happen, but he sure looks different from last year.

Wow, that was close to a disaster.
After the eighth inning I felt compelled to look up the current ERA’s of our pitching staff. My first thought after seeing the numbers was, “How in the world does this team have a winning record?”

I would go with this Bullpen and see how it works

    Right Handers

    Graceffo
    Fernandez
    O’Brien
    Soriano
Rajcic…DFA Bruhil to add to 40 man
    Gastelum

    Lefty’s

    Romero
Zimmerman….DFA Stanek to make room on 40 man

    Memphis bound….Svanson

When that ball left his bat I knew with 99% certainty where that ball was landing. Thank God that 1% reared it’s beautiful face.

I think Burly is doing fine defensively. He’s getting pretty darn good at what your quality 1st basemen HAVE to do……scooping those low and off-line throws out of the dirt. And you know he’s going to continue to improve. The two best defensive 1st basemen that spring forth first in my mind are Keith Hernandez and Mark Grace.

We get Skenes tomorrow…….the 4 game sweep is looking pretty darn good.

Love your Gastelum suggestion, Grey Ghost! I think he’s ready too.

Ghost – Gastellum is also not on the 40-man so you’d need 3 DFA’s (plus a 4th when Nootbaar returns).

I think we are stuck with the current bullpen alignment. Most likely Fernandez gets optioned tomorrow for Dobbins. Then Dobbins is optioned the next day for either Roycroft or the lefty we just picked up (Fernandez has to stay down 15 days).

I’m not ready to bring any of our off-roster guys yet. Let them keep getting better surrounded by coaches. Also, don’t be overly surprised if Hancel Rincon isn’t in that mix of additions by mid-summer or earlier.

Gastellum has walked 10 in 13 innings. I’d give him time to master AAA. And I’ve seen some signs of Svanson coming around. But I sure would move Stanek to the chase and use Graceffo and Soriano in Stanek’s place.

Svanson 15.2 IP ERA 10.34, Walks 12 Hits 21….he has been a little better his last few but seems to avg a walk/per IP

Bruhil…15.1 IP, ERA 5.87. Walks 11, Hits 12…. To much traffic on the bases when he pitches

Stanek….12 IP, 9.00 ERA walks 12, Hits 16….human rally cap right now, with all the people on base

They have plenty of others they could move on the 40 man if they need to make changes, Roycroft and Luis Peralta are both on the 40 man. Roycroft though has pitched well at Memphis since being sent down

I believe they have to make a move when Dobbins gets called up today. You could get a wish of a bullpen guy being jettisoned. Idk if it will be Stanek or Bruhitl. We do like to try and salvage value from playes we’ve signed FA contracts that have sucked until the last possible minute.

When the ball left the bat on that last out last night I thought we were doomed. Thankfully it was a cool night in Pittsburgh and the ball didn’t carry very well. Good play by Church. We barely escaped on that one.

Stanek is a 3.5M stomach acid producer.
