Score is 11-8 with one out in the ninth and Bowman has walked two. Game has gotten crazy. Can’t believe Matheny let Mayers soil on the mound so long. This would be the biggest Pirates comeback in history on the Cardinals short list for most embarrassing losses.

Will someone please tell Mike Matheny to take Mayers out of the game before it’s too late. Geez.Let me add to that. Will someone please tell Mo that bringing Mayers up for the 5th time in a little over a year was not a good idea. Hopefully he’s paying attention tonight.
Pirates crew said Pham’s HR was 440 ft. This has been a nice response after what happened last night and getting down early in the game tonight.
Clearly Boston is a much better team than StL, but the Cards should be embarrassed by this loss. Several points of failure combined to make it possible in the end. Gotta just shake my head at Carp and Yadi…they have to be better.
^ You have rounding error there. It’s actually .0004 behind (one significant digit). 😉
Bowman with the save. Cubs winning by 2, Brewers losing by 2. Pirates won earlier.
It was good management, followed by poor player performance.
Cecil has high entertainment value for games that appear to be out of reach for Cards’ opponents. How many times do you have to get burned playing the Cecil card when you’re up in a game before you decide it’s a really bad idea. Cecil’s only role right now should be pitching in games we’re getting blown out. We carry 13 pitchers, right?
How would it feel to have a premium bat in the lineup to the tune of .403/.489/.756/1.245 ? I have to laugh at that line. That’s what Hornsby did in 1925.
Survived a bit of a bullpen scare, which didn’t seem to happen earlier in the year. A game of inches, earlier this year the Moss double would’ve carried over the wall, but not tonight. Cards will probably be ahead of the Brewers in a few minutes (Brewers are losing by 5 in the 9th to the Twins). Cards are even with the Cubs in the W column and 2 back in the L column. Are the stars aligning?
I loved seeing Pham score from 1st on DeJong’s double. Rosenthal has a little more cushion to close now, 8-6.
Who didn’t know Moss and Oh was an awful matchup?
Fowler with a no-doubter grand slam. Cards up 7-3.
Can’t believe how well Lynn absorbed that blow. I wonder how thick his skull is? 😉
Cards have been playing great recently, but the defense has reverted to circus clown mode tonight. We need some of that newfound offense to kick in again soon.
Brian Walton
I think when Molina cools down, they should bring up Andrew Knizner. ?Good one! And we’d be remiss if we reference Molina’s grad slam tonight with paying homage to the rally cat.
Wong with a 2-run shot, Cards up 9-2 in the 8th.
Anything be else watching on MLB.tv?
Working fine for me (chrome browser on PC laptop and android phone).
Game tied 1-1 after 2 innings. Fowler (welcome back) scores after tripling and a sac fly by Wong. Moustakas hit a solo HR to tie.
So you can’t make critical comments about: a politician if you’ve never been elected yourself, a doctor’s practices if you don’t have a medical license, a contractor performing subpar work on your house if you don’t have construction credentials, etc. That’s not an effective argument.

The Alou brothers (Felipe, Matty & Jesus) also had a few innings with the Giants where they combined to play all three OF positions simultaneously.
It’s difficult for a leader to change his stripes effectively when going to more stringent expectations (e.g., running out routine grounders/flies, taking extra fielding drills when needed, etc.). Even if the leader is good at playing both good cop and bad cop roles, the masses often don’t buy into the bad cop when they are accustomed to serving the good cop. If this is at the heart of what Mo has eluded to when talking about cultural and clubhouse issues, it does raise questions about Matheny’s longevity.
Now it looks like the Cubs will lose to the Nats. Nats piled in on late. Pirates lost their lead too, and are now in extra innings with the Pads. Good day for the Cards.
Souza hits walkoff HR in the 9th to beat the Brewers.
Reds announcers commented on how Cecil looked comfortable swinging the bat.
