I loved seeing Pham score from 1st on DeJong’s double. Rosenthal has a little more cushion to close now, 8-6.

Yeah that was a big hit and Pham had an extra gear right there.

    Let’s close this out baby!

Get the brooms out and send the little brothers back to KC.

Survived a bit of a bullpen scare, which didn’t seem to happen earlier in the year. A game of inches, earlier this year the Moss double would’ve carried over the wall, but not tonight. Cards will probably be ahead of the Brewers in a few minutes (Brewers are losing by 5 in the 9th to the Twins). Cards are even with the Cubs in the W column and 2 back in the L column. Are the stars aligning?

    Per statman Tom Orf:

“Last time the Cardinals won 5 straight games scoring 8+ runs was in 1925”

How would it feel to have a premium bat in the lineup to the tune of .403/.489/.756/1.245 ? I have to laugh at that line. That’s what Hornsby did in 1925.

No excuses now. They are in it. Question is do they buy something that is on the market to bring it home down the stretch. Gonna be a fun finish if they can keep this going.

I think if they were going to make a splash they missed a chance to do so.

You think they’d consider a bullpen rental though. Oh in the 8th and can’t get lefties out is scary.

If you torture the stats you can make them confess to anything. In this case FanGraphs has us leading the division in expected wins (note: using their Season-to-date stats mode)

    FanGraphs expected wins

This might not be realistic because it gives a huge weighting to our recent streak, but much more reasonable than their default mode which has the Cubs winning 60% of their remaining games.

More food for thought, VS Cubs
