Why was Lester taken out? Because he gave up a hit? He’s a veteran pitcher and is more than capable of pitching around a 1 out single. If Shildt is fired and it’s because we don’t make the playoffs by 1 game… I’m going to send Reyes a Thank you card.
My heart goes out to Reyes…. I feel so bad for him. If we end up missing the playoffs by 1 game, the game against the Pirates and Crew this last week will be the 2 games people will look to unfortunately but the games I will look took are the many late in game management decisions by Shildt. Virtual hug to Reyes.
Question: How many chances can a manager give one player? Oh right… Answer… Mike Shildt. This team does not deserve to be in the playoffs and For the future of the team… this team should not be in the playoffs because then the credit would go to Shildt and I really don’t feel like suffering through another year watching Shildt manage in late game situations. He’s pretty much useless after 1st time thru the line up
This season for Cardinals fans is like a wounded dog you just want to shoot and put out of its misery… like just have it be the end of the season but unfortunately we have suffer through more a bad late game management and all stars failing in the clutch.
I will ask again…. Is anyone really surprised we scored no runs that inning even after 2 on and 1 out.
These first 4 innings are nothing more than an open backhand slap of reality. I’m not saying the birds can’t come back and win the series or even this game but the 6 game win streak coming in is now more magnified as to who those 6 wins were against.
Hearing the announcers speak about missed opportunities in today’s game, you’d think that was a rare thing for this team.
The Bullpen has retired 9 straight and has not walked anyone in 3 innings. Is this for real. Has that ever happened this season? I don’t think they’ve gone to a 3 ball count. Talk about a dream.. that is it and I’m living it.
You exchange 1 run for a pitcher who was dominating and bring in Helsley who has struggled lately. Funny thing even if you leave Garcia in to hit, you still score 1 run but most important LY…. You save your bullpen and give your team the best chance of winning with Garcia.
Here’s the problem with today’s game and how much it’s changed. Earlier I was watching game three of the 87 NLCS. The Cardinals were up 2 Runs on the Giants second and third with one out in the top of the 8th… Worrel Due up and he’d already pitched the 7th but Whitey did not pinch hit because he understood by leaving Worrell in the game gave the Cardinals the best chance of winning and holding onto that lead and that’s when the Cardinals had a pretty good bullpen.
What will Shildt do with Garcia? He’s pitched 2 great innings. Does he pinch hit for him our let him bat?
A 2 run lead is not enough with this bullpen… add 10 more runs… 2 outs in the 9th and 2 strikes on the hitter with no one on base and the opposing pitcher is batting… then I’ll feel a little more confident..
