You see what I mean???
Leadoff single by Edman. Nothing from Goldschmidt. Nothing at all from Arenado, who doesnt even hit the ball.
5-4 Pirates the final.

ParticipantWell that was very sad. We are basically on par with the pirates now. Maybe it’s for the best. People should just not even go to the game tomorrow. Maybe the front office will kick it in gear and get some players in here next season but probably not.

ParticipantIf they lose a series at home to the lowly Pirates when the pressure’s on, they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs.
August 21, 2021 at 9:46 pm #170379Losing a series to Pirates is driving that first nail in.

ParticipantGoldy and arenado have mostly been mia in big situations but they weren’t alone tonight. Our relief pitching wasn’t great either. Happy pitched pretty good, Cabrera has to do better.
August 21, 2021 at 9:48 pm #170381I wonder if Shildt thinks this is a big loss?
August 21, 2021 at 9:52 pm #170382This season for Cardinals fans is like a wounded dog you just want to shoot and put out of its misery… like just have it be the end of the season but unfortunately we have suffer through more a bad late game management and all stars failing in the clutch.
August 21, 2021 at 10:13 pm #170383Well, as bad as dropping two to the Buckos is – still 4 1/2 games out of the WC2 spot.
Missed opportunities…
Team has been completely out of synch the vast majority of this year for one reason or another.
August 21, 2021 at 10:19 pm #170384I was never thrilled with the Schildt hire but, unless the manager is a complete screw up and loses games – generally teams with the good players win, teams without good players lose.
I’m convinced that outside of may be 2-3 guys (like LaRussa) you could just randomly assign the other managers to teams and the standings would not change much.

Had to fact check this. 😉 Seemed highly unlikely, but they’re only 3 games out in the loss column.
That being the case, I’ll have to keep watching an inning here and there, in spite of the pain inflicted. If the Cards can win one game each series, how many times will the Reds and Padres need to be swept for the playoffs to work out?
August 21, 2021 at 11:49 pm #170388Rats, going into today’s game, Arenado has a batting line of .352/.431/.620/1.051 with Runners In Scoring Position. He has 80 RBIs which is 11 more than any other Cardinal. Actually, he has 80, Goldy has 69 and the next Cardinal (Molina) has 49. If you look at all his stats, Arenado HAS performed well when the Cardinals needed him to.
August 22, 2021 at 4:03 am #1703895-4 loss to the bottom-feeding Pirates. Ruined my Sunday morning croissants. But I guess I’ll watch today’s day game anyway. When you love the Cardinals you have to take the pain with the pleasure. And rooting for a mediocre team is indeed painful because they keep dangling the microscopically slim possibility of success in your face.
Rah Cardinals!
Eat ’em up Waino!

ParticipantCIF said it very well. Rooting for a mediocre team is extremely painful. Especially when you have a passion for that team.
