2016, not sure I follow why your link indicates Gyrko could be a fit for the Nationals.
They are looking for someone that can play 1B/2B on a short term deal, because Carter Kieboom is their long-term plan at SS or 2B.
December 12, 2018 at 2:19 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #77194you trade Jmart for the best lefty reliever you can get,
No, you are pigeonholing yourself into what the return should be. Right now, there are plenty of left-handed pitchers the Cardinals can sign to reasonable contracts on the open market.
Why not take the best return possible?
Outfielder Mel Rojas Jr., the son of the former pitcher, is looking for a major-league job after hitting 43 homers with a .980 OPS last season in Korea. Rojas, 28, is a switch-hitter who plays all three outfield positions. Eric Thames’ final season in Korea: 40 homers, 1.106 OPS.

You see, when Mozeliak heard everyone clamoring for a 26 year-old left-handed hitter from Vegas…
A fourth round pick out of high school from Las Vegas in 2010
Yeah, this seems like a move just to make a move

Copying the Oakland A’s playbook all the way.

December 11, 2018 at 11:23 am in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #76982I thought that was what the 5 years/$82.5 million was for…
As for the JMart, Dietrich, Descalso comparison, I almost always prefer to have the better overall hitter versus a particular handedness.
The exception is JMart, who is so atrocious in the field I cannot believe he made it to the major leagues, considering his swing change was what, 3 years ago?
If the Cardinals could strictly use him as a PH, I’d be fine with keeping him. But I don’t think they can practice that self control.
Right now, when Reyes comes back, I would piggy back him and Wacha.
Reyes throws 4 innings, Wacha throws five.
December 10, 2018 at 11:46 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #76925So, MLBTR is reporting that the Yankees, Mets and Marlins might be teaming up on a 3 team trade with Realmuto going to the Mets, Syndegaard going to the Yankees (I presume) and prospects going to the Marlins…
Which got me thinking: Cleveland and Tampa are two of our best potential trade partners right now, and there is a way to get Kluber without it really hurting at all:
Tampa has reportedly discussed getting Edwin Encarnacion and Yandi Diaz from Cleveland. It is presumed Cleveland will need to send cash back to Tampa to facilitate a trade, because Tampa is cheap.
So:
– The Cardinals send JMart, Gyorko, Hudson and Adolis Garcia & $5 million to Cleveland
– The Cardinals send Wacha + $5 million to Tampa
– Cleveland sends $5 million per year for two years, Encarnacion & Diaz to Tampa
– Cleveland sends Kluber to the Cardinals
– Tampa sends Brandon Lowe to the Cardinals, Joe McCarthy to ClevelandCardinals end up with Kluber + Brandon Lowe
Cleveland ends up with JMart, Gyorko, Hudson, Adolis Garcia, Joe McCarthy and about $27 million in savings
Tampa ends up with Wacha, Encarnacion, Diaz + $10 millionAll 3 teams are improved
Neither one of them should be in the outfield.
Though didn’t Gyorko play half a game there two years ago when all of our outfielders were injured at the same time?
December 10, 2018 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #76905They are known to be shopping Thames (who either could be flipped to Tampa or take Encarnacion’s role as DH if Cleveland can trade him). They are also shopping Domingo Santana, who I believe is out of options.
Not hard to see the Brewers landing Kluber if LA doesn’t give up Verdugo + pitching
struck out 21 batters in 21 big league innings this year
The results in that small sample were not great, though, with Meisinger allowing six home runs and a 6.43 ERA overall.
I see no chance of the Cubs getting him with their current payroll situation – they’d go into the top tier of luxury tax busters.
I think it’s a two team race right now – the Phillies and Dodgers (if they can move Puig and Kemp).

About a month ago, I think it was USA Today, suggested Harper should go year-to-year to maximize his earnings.
He could seek a ten year deal, in which there are only 3 real players for his services, or he could seek a one year deal at a record AAV, in which up to 20 teams would be in the market for his services.
Supply and demand.
I like the Cabrera suggestion.
