He of the 102 mph fastball
LOL – The Cubs almost moved!!!
When I first started this discussion, the Cubs wanted $200 million in taxpayer dollars. I said no. Then they said we’d like $150 million, and I said no. Then they asked whether they could have $100 million in taxpayer subsidies, and I said no. Then they asked about $55 million in taxpayer subsidies. I said no. The good news is, after 15 months they heard the word ‘No.’”
I just hate the thought of Tom having to grovel to this guy to put money into a building we already own.
I have been brought up to deplore the type of value system adopted by the Mayor of Chicago. This is stating it mildly.
THIS is why you don’t give welfare to billionaires!!!
December 17, 2018 at 11:14 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #77876Just out of curiosity…why such a big difference in the Brantley vs McCutchens
Brantley had 3 offers a month ago – I’m guessing he went with the team he felt had the best chance of winning a WS (though it seems like they need to do something with their pitching staff)
December 17, 2018 at 8:08 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #77873Brantley had shoulder surgery after diving for a ball (like Ozuna) one year and ankle surgery another year. Let’s not act like those are chronic conditions.
But it is sad, the Astros sign Brantely for 2/$32, the Cardinals sign Fowler for 5/$82.5. You can say McCutheon is an overpay at 3/$50, but still not near as bad as Fowler’s contract.
December 16, 2018 at 11:52 am in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #77776I’ve had my life destroyed by people stealing from me. I lost over $2 million because of it. Right now, I work for a company with no benefits. It is what it is.
You only know because you made a comment that others need to understand what it is like to deal with depression. I understand it, because I have to deal with it.
It doesn’t change the fact that PROFESSIONAL SPORTS IS ABOUT WINNING, it is not about participation trophies.
don’t you think they would like to get away if they could?
Then Dexter should be asking for the Cardinals to facilitate a trade rather than asking for positive affirmation and for them to keep running him out there while he is costing the team runs.
December 16, 2018 at 11:44 am in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #77765I’ve dealt with more depression throughout my life than you will know. If I let it affect my job, I’d be fired.
I never realized Cecil has a no trade clause also.
Yes, Cecil & Fowler are the only two Cardinals with full NTC’s. Maybe that should serve as a warning sign to this front office to just walk away.
December 16, 2018 at 11:17 am in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #77758Dexter Fowler once again proves it is all about him and not about the team actually winning. He wants the team to affirm their commitment to him, because overpaying him by $50 million isn’t enough. They should allow him to single-handedly cause the Cardinals to miss the playoffs, because he wants to be in his happy place.
Well, playing Fowler if he struggles won’t help them keep their jobs
December 15, 2018 at 9:09 pm in reply to: Former Cardinals in the News – 2017 to Aug. 2024 (closed) #77692Great Interview with Adam Ottavino
One of the better player interviews I’ve read in a long time
A look at teams that have signed megadeals to new players from a previous season success point
MLB got a Federal law passed earlier this year giving them an exemption from paying minor leaguers minimum wage! And they had the nerve to call it “Save America’s Pastime Act” – as if minimum wages would break MLB. That also allowed MLB to get salary class-action lawsuits filed against them thrown out of court.
And no one seems to care…
And these owners are always seeking handouts in the form of public financing of their private enterprises…
Well, Brian, if you want to start a change.org petition, I will sign it. All you have to do is send it to every sportswriter in America and you’ll get the necessary signatures in no time.
December 13, 2018 at 8:10 pm in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #77431Well, they are partially owned by the Cardinals…
December 13, 2018 at 9:40 am in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #77349Fowler also changed the date of his wife’s C-section last summer because it was originally schedule for a weekend we were playing the Cubs and he wanted to pal around with Rizzo
December 13, 2018 at 9:39 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #77348C2016, maybe the JMartinez to the Dodgers rumors was a possible part of the 3 way trade with Cleveland.
Yes, the Dodgers front office is much more capable of pulling something like that off than the Cardinals front office.
December 12, 2018 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #77277Honestly, right now there is enough relief help on the market that if they could add a decent prospect or two, then sign some free agent relief help, they are probably better off.
I think what you have to do is take contracts for players over a certain age and have them decline throughout the contract.
So (hypothetical example),
Year 1 = $25 million
Year 2 = $20 million
Year 3 = $15 million
Year 4 = $10 million
Year 5 = $5 millionThat’s how you are able to move them as performance declines.
Of course, for luxury tax purposes, they’d be saying that is $15 million per year…
December 12, 2018 at 3:21 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #77206this team is not going to think this way.
Well, I tend to agree with you there…
