We have Players and Pitchers of the Month to recognize top in-season performers. Prospect rankings reflect a player’s MLB promise. The two can be very different, especially when talking about a player who is still in short-season ball such as Castano.
Having said that, he has made four very good starts for State College. That has been quite a turnaround from his 6.19 ERA 2016 at JC.
On your other point, with State College and the DSL Cards winning, that made the Friday record 2-5, as stated in the Notebook.
The key change is that for a team to be able to make a qualifying offer, the player must have been with that same team for the entire preceding season.
I am not commenting on this tweet other than to note that it seems to have a lot of people riled up.
I'm hearing insight of serious progress in Cardinals' quest to acquire Josh Donaldson. Nothing yet final yet, though.

With two games to go, the Cardinals are assured to have a losing record at the all-star break, and will be somewhere between 4.5 and 8.5 games out of the division lead. Wild card seems highly unlikely.
Will the break be the time to make the call on what approach to take with the roster?
bhoyal, welcome. Since you are commenting here, you are logged in and have the capability to start new threads. The area to do that is at the bottom of the main forum page that lists all of the recent discussions.
Diaz’ demotion and his struggles is certainly a topic worth talking about.
Martinez made the team out of camp because he thoroughly outplayed Pham. Not even close.
Phillips played 11 years in Cincy so his “act” did not wear out quickly. He was an overpaid vet on a rebuilding team and was traded away at age 36 for the last year or two of his career. Not comparable to Martinez at all.
I appreciate the additional information. (I also made it another nested reply so I can see the results on my phone.)
The realities of the minors that many do not think about.
The @Cardinals signed Luke Voit for 5,000. He had no agent. Dad was buying his bats till this year. He just started renting a car yesterday.

I am unsure why some posts are listed that way and others not. Agree it needs attention. Thanks for the reminder.
Great start for Billings at PB, but it is just 16 games. Perhaps he is figuring out how to use those large parks to his advantage. He already has just one less XBH so far with PB than he had in three times as many games and at bats with Peoria. Very different results so far.
MLB’s Draft Tracker indicates 18th rounder Shane McCarthy has signed for $100K. Not yet confirmed by team.
Well, the separators are already a light gray now. I could see about going darker, I guess, but maybe you could check on another device.
I blame Voit for Carpenter being at second base! 😉
Seriously, why isn’t Matt back at third? At least he would not be making as many errors.
#STLCards vs. Miami (7/6):
Carpenter 2B
Pham CF
J. Martinez RF
Gyorko 3B
Molina C
Voit 1B
Grichuk LF
Garcia SS

O’Reilly was an honorable mention here in May. Will certainly move onto next top 50.
Billings has good average and steals bases, but does not take walks and has very little extra-base power.
