From the vantagepoint of a more casual follower of goings on than some or all who post on the member forum, three things stand out.
1. Congratulations on your apparent off season MBA. The corp-speak is impressive.
2. Bilardello and Kruzel among the reduction in force. Experienced and accomplished pros. Seems a questionalbe place to save money.
3. Issy, Ludwig, etc. Clearing out popular legacy players and names familiar to many fans. Perhaps indicative of a front office worldview with potential implications at a higher level as previously hypothesized and disclaimed.I think we need one or two “normal” seasons for all the changes in the baseball world to clarify and settle into a stable picture we can begin to get familiar with. My gut feeling is that the money will end up even more concentrated at the top than it already is. Players and staff.
So that is another reason why, IMO, Mo deflated when Arte did not throw a pile of cash at Yadi. But that kind of magic is once in a lifetime.

An agreement normally happens before the arb hearing actually occurs. And isn’t it normally at or very near the midpoint which ends up agreed upon?
If Mo was willing to spend Benintendi money, he would have gotten more value signing Wong. As to Bader, he has the potential to offer some run prevention up the middle. I like him batting 7th, but there is a lot of competition for the bottom of the order slots.
It seems inevitable that a lot of high school players are going to be SOL. Do some JC or College and hope for a higher level spot I guess. I hadn’t thought of cooperation with Indy teams. Interesting.
Brian do you think the reduced roster spots in the lower MiLB levels is or will affect international signing strategy? Was there some speculation about a second GCL team?

One of my earliest memories is at a game in old Busch on Grand, sitting above the outfield fence and the outfielder in front of us was Mike Shannon. I’m guessing 1966. He’s been a big part of my enjoyment of the game my whole life.
I saw where Goold was lamenting that neither the Cards not anyone else in the NL Central are spending any money while shedding WAR. Then Brian’s disclaimer with article attached (kidding) (sort of) on the hypothetical possibility Mo really does not want to sign the Dynamic Duo. I think that is a legitimate possibility. I don’t see the team spending the money to sign Waino and Yadi for a swan song year which, in either case, will not return nearly the WAR that Wong likely would have, and there doesn’t seem to have been an interest spending the money to keep him in the organization. It has to end at some point and an arguably justified go cheap season seems like a good point.
cranny you went and reminded me of a disagreeable incident from last spring. My then 91 year old dad, may he RIP, needed a covid test due to possible exposure at his assisted living, but their in house nurse could not get any test kits. I was sitting with him in my car in an hour long line at Mercy clinic drive up testing in Kirkwood, him using a hand held hospital bedside urinal because he was 91, and we were listening to Mo telling about the testing regimen the Cardinals were putting in place. To keep players and their families safe. I am equally sure they will get their hands on vaccine before us little people too. But we can pay $20 to see their kool stuff. Is that what ‘tone deaf’ refers to?
How loaded down a team is with big long term contracts might have more to do with this off season’s moves than the size of their market.
My wife says if I give her $20 I can look in her closet too. I needed a good laugh, but she said she was not kidding.
I am reminded of when I tune in to the Olympics hoping to see a competition and they are running a puff piece about some obscure athlete’s home life back in the village. On the farm with Alf or whatever. I think the whole virtual thing is a hard sell, but the baseball related stuff may draw some.
