When it comes to the pitching staff, you have to ask: For us to be successful, how many of these guys need to do something besides what they did last year? If its most, that’s not likely to happen.
I could see Edman doing well enough offensively. Halfway in between 2019 and 2020 say. Effective switch hitter. Swipe a base here and there. Needs to learn how to take a walk though. I’d like to see how his D develops as an everyday second baseman.

Carpenter can’t be the DH vs lefties, and would have to revert to at least 3 years ago to do at all. Any of the young outfielders who don’t start could do just as well and need the PAs.

Imagine the Cards going deep into post-season. What is it worth at that moment to have Molina on the roster? And how much difference does in make how long it takes him to get down to first? It sounds like Mo is on the right page with this.
I didn’t see a place to discuss these articles on the members forum, so I will just say I don’t buy the Aussie catcher thing. My sleeper is Lars Nootbaar. How can you not root for a guy with that name.

I disagree. A big market team throws a pile of money at a problem and just buys what they want. This was the kind of deal a mid market team makes. With the contracts coming off the books after this year and the cash coming with Arenado it is not a payroll buster at all. Instead of cash, Mo used other resources and took advantage of a situation that existed here with the big contracts ending, and in Denver with Arenado wanting to leave and able to opt out after this year. Not big market like at all.
It would make sense for the Rockies to trade Gomber at some point. A lefty with height will be appealing to the right team. He certainly has made an unexpected contribution to the Cardinals.
A random thought. The Yadi plays everyday thing needs to evolve this year.
Another random thought is I would like to see how DeJong would look hitting between Goldy and Anenado. That could be epic.
I watched Gomber in Peoria where he was a man among boys and imagined what might be. I guess a guy can contribute in unexpected ways.

An aspect that I have not seen mentioned yet is that having Arenado in the lineup should help Goldschmidt, but we will get around to the proposed lineups quite soon surely.
People always propose a basket of spare parts instead of the prospect the other team wants. They play in Denver, they want a slugging prospect. Probably also a pitching prospect who keeps it low in the zone.
I am very curious to find out what a career path will look like for these kind of guys starting out so young and without the lower level roster slots anymore. We already know what happens to the experienced Mexican League guy you pay $1M for who hits .300 in his MLB look see. If that guy gets cleared out for the draft pick bonus guys what happens to these young kids?
I would have voted for Clemmens but that’s it. No roid guys. No guys who ran up there stats DHing after they couldn’t play anymore, if they ever could. No Hall of Pretty Darn Good guys, which only diminishes the honor shown to the best of the best. I also agree with 1982 Willie about the sorry state of the game.
gscottar, I am sure, BW set out the math above. But the FO needs to sell tickets and attract viewers, and The math does not factor that in.
