Do the Cardinals have to either keep him on the ML roster or cut him and keep writing checks?
Yes or trade him and eat most of the contract.
I see none of those things happening. He will be on the roster all year.
If he doesn’t get a hit, how can they justify it? The talking points would be so hollow even for them. I guess they could come up with a phantom injury and hope he figures it out in the minors during rehab. I am sure he has a creaky neck or sore leg after we run him for an hour. Call it “precautionary”
Carp with the golden glove to rob Dominic Smith and preserve the shutout for Cmart through 3. He looks a little better today.
The pitching was mostly solid today except for Rondon, who gave up all 5 runs. The offense was mostly shut down save for one inning. They had the bases loaded with no one out on walks in the 9th and ended popup-K-popup. Gorman was the final out as he went 0-5. Better days are ahead for him.
Gorman was charged the error on the play that blew open the 7th inning, but his throw, a bit wide to the right, hit off the webbing of Rondon’s glove.
Actually that was Kramer Robertson at 2nd. The ball almost stayed in Kramer’s glove, and dropped about 3 feet away.
Flaherty pitching today, followed by Fernandez, Quezada, Oviedo and Elledge.

Justin Williams had 2 hits yesterday including a HR. He’s competing to make the team, but I don’t think there’s any serious consideration of him in a starting role.

bc, you can look at 1 game or a small sample size all you want. However, the big picture is that those same 5 were 18-58 entering the game. That’s a batting average of .310….and it’s still early in spring training. To give you an example of how small sample sizes don’t show the whole picture, their combined batting average dropped to .257 in 1 game. It could go back up to .300 after the next game.

The outfielders seem to have performed fairly well so far this spring, if you ask me.
Strong point there forsch. A good positive attitude. I knew before coming on here there was going to be some sky is falling shouting going on. Course the whole lineup didn’t hit but we have to blame someone.
Forsch – Molina, Goldy, and NA are many time All Stars. The outfield is unproven. You know that.
I’m actually most worried about the offensive performance of one guy – PDJ. We simply have to have a good bat at #5 to protect NA.
bc, Arenado is unproven outside of playing half of his games at Coors Field. Career .263/.322/.471/.793 outside of Coors. Molina will be 39 during the season and had an OPS+ of 87 in 2019 and 81 in 2020. He barely outperformed Bader in 2019 and was well under him in 2020. Goldy will be 34 in September. That is an age where regression could happen.
Once again, you missed the point that you are using small sample sizes, playing with statistics and ignoring stats that don’t fit your narrative. All to continue to dwell on something that we won’t know for sure until the season is well underway. Bader, O’Neill, Carlson and Thomas have all shown glimpses of being able to contribute to the offense. One game doesn’t override that.
Forsch – Some of this stuff is just banter with levity. In other words, good natured back and forth. Of course one game doesn’t make a point.
But I’d be very careful on one thing though. I believe you’d be in a small minority if you start talking down Goldy and NA. Especially NA. The Cardinals studied him from every angle before they made that deal and took on his compensation package. Goldy? He’s solid all the way around both offensively and defensively. Regression is an individual thing. Musial had an OPS of .924 when he was 41 years old.
