.230 hitters can have a slow start too, cranny. He will round into form.

Outfield better start getting in gear, willy. To justify Mo’s risk.

Well I guess we might as well not play the regular season, we have already lost.

It was a risk they had to take and it was a good risk. They can’t/won’t go out this coming off-season and get three outfielders. 2021 is a throw away season and when it’s over they’ll know which of the kids can be starters. Then they can go get one or two slugger outfielders to be ready for 2022. It’s all part of the plan.

The WS will be won by an organization that does not consider 2021 to be a throw away season.

No season is a throwaway season for BDW, Jr.

Goldy with the Gold Glove play there at first to start the double play. Arenado nearly made a nice play to nab Correa for the first out. Gonna be fun to watch those guys make plays this year.

Dylan Carlson annihilates one deep over the RF fence to put the Cards up 2-0.

It’ll really help if DeJong and Carlson gain some momentum going into the regular season. Seems like they’re starting to heat up.

Hated to see Goldy and AN fail to get that run home in the 3rd.

Decent outing so far by Wolfman Jack.

Bader/Carp in the 5th did even worse than Goldy/NA in the 3rd.

He’s pitching better than Ponce de Leon has pitched this spring.

I don’t think it can happen, but, IMHO, Bader could use a few weeks at AAA to get used to his new batting style.

I kept checking the feed to see the exit velocity on the Carlson dinger. Apparently the Statcast machine took a break on his at bat. They did catch the Bader line drive after, somehow.

There have been plenty of throw away seasons for BDWJr. 2021 is just the latest. If they were intent on winning the WS they would’ve acquired two top flight outfielders who were major offensive producers. But, no they did the logical thing and will spend the year looking at 6 or 7 possibilities and deciding which ones are keepers. Then if they are serious about winning the WS in off season, they will get another player the caliber of Arenado…another all-star…another superstar. Otherwise they’re just content to compete for the division, slip into the playoffs on the last day of the season and have the team watch the WS on televison.

Boy, that’s pretty pessimistic, mspaid. How is it then, that the Cardinals rank in the top 5 in MLB this century in regular season wins and playoff wins?

Good to see Carlson have a good day. It is getting harder to justify not figuring out a way to have Nog on the bench. And to justify having Carp on it. Liked the pitching, a lot of Ks and not too many BBs. Gant did what he needed to do. I hope the cut down happens this weekend so we can see the regulars out there regularly.

I see there were some cuts made today. Thinned out the back field brigade.

I think the Cardinals are going to be forced to cut Carpenter at some point this season.

I dont know about the rest of you but I am really looking forward to that very first Game Thread this year. Its just a little over a week away. I know Mr. Walton will be posting it at the appropriate time. It will probably look something like this:

2021 MLB Game #1: Cards at Reds: Thurs April 1

I am really looking forward to the 2021 baseball season. Not just watching our beloved Redbirds but all the other plots and story lines this year too. Plus staying up late and watching games from the West Coast. Having a late bite to eat, then a cigar, with my old buddy Whitey Herdog on the sofa with me, doesnt get any better than that.

Those West Coast games are a little rough on the older generation fans.
