Did you completely overlook Dakota Hudson?

No, I was focusing on high school bats, which we are terrible at drafting – and will be as long as their best tool is the ability to draw walks.

At least with Gorman, he has an actual tool.

Kody Clemens was the first player taken today. He should have been who the Cardinals chose at 75. Much more impact from a power-hitting 2B than a power hitting 1B.

And the Cardinals won’t have three first round picks for the duration of this collective bargaining agreement, so they better figure out how to start hitting on all their first round picks…

Cards take Gil, Mateo SS, Timber Creek HS (TX) – not ranked by anybody…….

And Woodford still has a chance. They say adapting to AA is the toughest jump in the minors. (Other than to MLB of course.)
It seems like Carlson was under slot, and Plummer maybe over slot? Plummer has missed a lot if time with injury. And Perez may be a huge bust. This year will likely either put him back higher on the prospect list, or sink into what might have been.

Gil probably a pick to save money to use on Gorman

(Gil Mateo) 3rd round – listed as a pitcher but they have said he won’t pitch and projects as a 3B.

Was Hicks ranked by anyone when drafted?

Let’s hope Gil is at least as good as his Dad. I was going to say better but his Dad made it to MLB which is more than we can say about most draft picks.

Did they say Gingery has TJ surgery this past February? 6’1″ lefty. Ranked much higher than the 123 selection. Maybe State College.

Yep, NyquisT, they did. Said they thought he might have snuck into the first round, if he’d remained healthy.

He is Tewes II. We’ll have to wait until ’19.

Nicky Dunn 2B- Maryland 5’10” Wong clone… better bat… less glove. Picked up his college #s quite a bit in ’18. State College 2nd baseman?

They got a LHP!! See you in 2019. I wonder what the scouts said about him pre-injury. I see he was ranked 103.

MLB says Edgar Gonzalez is 6’1. I found a report (Perfect Game) that says he’s 6’4 with an ‘outstanding CB’. I have to think that Brian will set the record straight as time permits.

Quite a few left-handed hitters today. We could really use some development there, obviously. Not sure if this was intentional or just the way it happened to work out.

Lars is the best name in the Cards system now.

Lars is a worthy contender, but Yowelfy Rosario remains my favorite.

What happened to the Cardinals focus on athleticism? I’m not complaining. Just commenting. Also, it kind of seems like they were drafting for need rather than ‘best player available’.

The report on Steven Gingery sounds very encouraging until the the analyst tells us that he’s a sure #4 starter. Not that #4 is bad. Just not a player to get overly excited about yet.

The bottom line is, as always, ‘wait and see’. At one time I had high hopes for Dylan Carlso, Bryce Denton, and even JD Murders who was cut today to name a few.
