I like Burleson at #6 in the lineup vs RHP. And I’m intrigued by the table-setting potential of Scott, Winn and Donovan ahead of the “big sticks”.
RBK, please post in English, so I can try to understand. lol What would you prefer for Burleson? Traded, sent down to AAA, etc.
From what I gather, many of you posters would like to see Burleson traded or sent down to AAA. Is that correct?
Didn’t Burleson have some kind of a very high “bad luck” rate that was one of the hightest in MLB last season? Sorry, I don’t have the specifics. But what I gathered is, he hit a lot of hard hit balls that were at the defense. Sometimes, bad luck is involved in hitting.
I see these “weak contact” concerns regarding Burleson. What about the “rockets” that often come off his bat? Almost all MLB hitters have occasional “weak contact”. And many strike out at a much higher rate than Burleson.
Do you lead off Scott tomorrow in the opener? Or bat him 9th. A little less pressure. Winn at 8, Scott at 9, lot’s of speed at 8 and 9. After that, Donovan. Could be good table setters for the “big sticks”.
“Lots of 2b and 3b on the roster now”. 1B should open up next season or sooner. Slide Gorman over to 1B. Insert Saggese at 2B. Trade either Edman or Donovan for starting pitching. That’s if Saggese establishes some fine offensive stats at AAA. The Scott insurance reference in the OP has already transpired. Now let’s see if Saggese can provide that, too.
Scott has made it to the bigs. Now, how long will it take Saggese? He looks darn good to me as a MLB hitting prospect.
The disrespect for Burleson’s hitting ability by many posters is astounding. I see a very talented hitter in Burleson. Especially, after having to see all those strikeout prone Cardinals hitters recently. To each their own.
RBK, I doubt if ST stats are meaningless to the guy making out the lineup. At least, early in the season.

The way Burleson is hitting, does he start against a LHP early in the season? Or do they go with a righty bat? Maybe Herrera at DH. Burly was hanging in there pretty good against a good LHP today.
If Carlson is injured again. It might be time to expedite a Scott promotion. Scott would give the Cardinals something they need more of. Speed and defense.
It does seem 2B is the best place for Saggese. Having his offensive potential as a 2B is quite appealing. However, there’s a logjam at 2B. That’s why I advocate getting Saggese some reps in LF at AAA. I’m not ruling out a Goldschmidt trade before the deadline. Moving Gorman to 1B and inserting Saggese at 2B. Of course, this is dependent on how both Goldschmidt and Saggese hits before that. Actually, even how Donovan hits.
Saggese has been playing some SS recently. What’s up with that? They must feel he has some good range and a good arm as an infielder. Isn’t it kind of interesting that Saggese is still with the big club this late in ST? And Scott is not.
BOCfan, for what it’s worth, I heard that the Rangers weren’t thrilled to give up Saggese. However, Mo insisted that he be included in the deal for Montgomery and Stratton.
AdM, seeing that you recently registered. And by your handle, I think I know who you are. Thanks for trying to be civil on this message board. I’ve read that Saggese is sure handed at 2B, he must have good range as the Cardinals have been giving him some PT at SS in ST, and he has decent speed. His power production last season should speak for itself. Though sometimes it doesn’t necessarily translate from the minors to the bigs. Hope that helps.
RBK, that’s in the past. I foresee see Burleson improving a lot from last season. He’s an intelligent, talented lefty hitter.
Noot seems to strike out at a much higher rate than Burleson. Noot often seems to get in a hole trying to nurse a walk. I like Burleson’s aggressive approach. It’s going to pay off for him if he’s a little more disciplined in what he swings at. And I’m kind of seeing that.
jcs, with the infield logjam. I would like to see Saggese get some work in the outfield at AAA. It would help his versatility. Also, another RH bat, potentially, in the outfield against a tough lefty. Whatcha think?
I really hope Goldschmidt starts hitting. But if it is obvious that he’s lost something. The Cardinals would be fine at the trade deadline or sooner, moving Gorman to 1B and inserting Saggese at 2B. Hopefully, getting a decent, cost controlled starting pitcher for Goldy.
