I would start Walker because of the psychology of telling him he’s s not in the season opening lineup. The wonks don’t factor in the intangibles.

SS Masyn Winn RMarch 28, 2024 at 11:45 am #245209OK, thanks for clarifying, bling. I found it illogical that you said playing Walker doesn’t have to make sense. It would seem to make sense after all since it is what you would do too. Complaining by habit?
March 28, 2024 at 11:47 am #245210He got four lefty bats into the lineup. We will see if that is enough to get the job done…
March 28, 2024 at 11:51 am #245213I like Burleson at #6 in the lineup vs RHP. And I’m intrigued by the table-setting potential of Scott, Winn and Donovan ahead of the “big sticks”.
March 28, 2024 at 12:10 pm #245217Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” dance remix playing in the clubhouse per Jeff Jones. Seems young guys still running the clubhouse…good for them.
March 28, 2024 at 12:25 pm #245219Pretty much the lineup most expected. As mentioned I would not have been shocked had Crawford been given the start at short, but Winn is the guy of the future and they want to get him in there on a daily basis if possible.
With Goldy’s poor Spring they could have run Carpenter out there and put him at first, but you don’t do that with your franchise guys. And he is a lefty bat off the bench, as is BC.

ParticipantWe’re heading into the season all banged up with Edman, Carlson, Nootbaar and Gray not available. I would feel a lot better if those guys were ready to go. It seems like a lopsided chance for the Cards. If we can come home with a 4-3 record there should be a ticker-tape parade for them.
I’m an old Carpenter fan but I still can’t get my head around why he’s on this team.

For leadership?, bobble-head promotions, and antacids for players who purchased his salsa
March 28, 2024 at 12:41 pm #245222I’m a bit more focused on the Dodger’s line-up. Mikolas gets greeted to the ’24 season by Betts, Ohtani and Freeman. He won’t get any bargains after that with Smith and Muncy. He’ll be staring down the barrel this afternoon.
March 28, 2024 at 12:48 pm #245223Yeah, with Betts, Ohtani and Freeman out of the gate, we could be down 3-0 before we have opened the first beer of the season. 🙂
March 28, 2024 at 1:03 pm #245224Don’t overlook a potential puppy dog give away.
March 28, 2024 at 1:03 pm #245225Have we got the lineup yet?
And Pugs? Whitey Herdog is still doing fine. She will be on the couch with me today for 1st pitch, along with the Ribeye steak, french fries, slushy Mt. Dew, and some Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. And a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.
And congrats on your upcoming nuptials. She’s getting a good man there!

March 28, 2024 at 1:10 pm #245226Scroll up for Lineup.
March 28, 2024 at 1:19 pm #245232Yeah, unless he’s careful it could quickly develop into a sustained barrage.
March 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm #245235Five of the 10 to precede Walker are Hall of Famers – Al Kaline, Sam Crawford, Ty Cobb, Mel Ott and Mickey Mantle. The other five are Rusty Staub, Tony Conigliaro, Randy Moore, Jose Guillen and Jason Heyward. https://t.co/O98fXgr6A5

Thanks Rat! Yeah, I hope she realizes that she’s hit the Lotto jackpot. Glad to see that The Her Dog is alive and kicking…..and mooching munchies from her daddy while enjoying Cardinal baseball.
So we have our two speedsters occupying the very bottom dredges of the batting order. Victor Scott was bred to leadoff. Couple that with the fact that this team has been searching for years for a legitimate speedster to bat leadoff. So where does he bat…..8th. If inserting Scott #1 in the order right out of the gate is going to psychologically mess him up, then he’s not the man for the job anyway. Stop babying these guys. Insert Scott into the #1 slot and move Donovan into Burleson’s #6 position and Burleson to #8.
March 28, 2024 at 2:23 pm #245239Like I said Pugs, it doesn’t have to make sense.
March 28, 2024 at 2:30 pm #245241When was the last time we opened the season in Dodger Stadium? I know we did in 1984 but I don’t if we have since then.
Anybody have a clue?

stlcard25ParticipantI’ll be listing to the game as I finish up work and on my drive back home. Make the long commute a little more worth it today.
March 28, 2024 at 2:36 pm #245244Rats, yes, 1984 was the last time the Cards opened at Dodger Stadium. They won that game, 11-7.
stlcard25, keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel… 😉
March 28, 2024 at 2:50 pm #245246Yeah, and Bruce Sutter got his 1st save of the year in this one. He pitched three (3) innings in relief. Imagine a closer nowadays pitching three innings in relief.
Anyway, it was the 1st of 45 saves for Sutter that year. And Porter and McGee homered in this one as well.

That I will do, sir. Radio only for me once I hit the road. 😀

stlcard25ParticipantSeason starts with something of a thud. Down 2-0 already.
March 28, 2024 at 3:35 pm #245251Could be worse. A baserunning mistake and an OF assist helped out.
