Batting avg is a tried and true measure over the long term. Like any stat, one game it means nothing, but over 162 it means a lot. From what i saw, there is 5 guys above 300. But what that stat doesnt tell you there is a bunch of guys hitting 280 or better. So that doesnt change the fact that anyone on the cardinald team with a name not walker or burleson are hitting terrible. This is jjs rookie year so its not a major thing for him, they put him in leadoff which is a hard spot and he should improve. Hes done fine but hes not hitting good, let alone great. So you put a bunch of guys out there avg a hit once ever 4 to 5 times at bats and expect to really score a lot of runs. Sure sometimes those hits may come together or maybe you get a lot of free passes and it happens but if you got a number of guys that consistently can put the bat on the ball you can earm your wins not hope for wins. So i dont think the game has changed that much aa far as whats important. Sure you can hit for high avg and not score lots of runs but that tells more about the people behind them, than the batter. To me i want the cardinal players to be like the team i want them to be. I want the orginazation to build a team that expects to be a winner, not hope to be a winner. I want players that want and expect to hit the ball and get on base, not players hoping to get on base. A team and players like that will be successful.

I’ve never been one to disregard the importance of a decent BA but, in my estimation, the genuinely outstanding hitters can almost always be instantly identified by the number of TB’s. I feel it’s the one stat that’s foolproof in regards to separating the pretty good hitters, from the great ones.

willie the game has always brought out a faction that thinks they are privy to some insight into the game that everyone for the last 100 years was not smart enough to grasp. Whatever. Don’t worry about it. Players used to train to hit for average, now they train to do something else. Maybe we can string some something elses together and get a run here in the 9th.

Just arrived home 15 minutes ago after a whirlwind trip to Cleveland. A walkoff win vs the cubbies would be a great welcome home present for the ol’ Pugarooski.

Shucks! Gassy just threw flames on the fire and we’re down 2-0 in the 10th. We’re still just one swing away from tying this puppy though…..as long as they don’t tack on more tallies.

PCA greeted Gastelum in the top of the 10th with a two-run home run.

    Herrera walks it off!!!

Gassy now 2-0 on the campaign. Bring Gassy in the game and good things magically happen.

Nice to come back and win that one.

Great one to see in the former Comiskey Park last night. That is a nice ball park – really enjoyed it. My first game there so I added another park to my “collection.” White Sox give up 4 in the first, but come back late to tie and win in extras.

Always interesting when the guy who gives up a multi run meatball gets the win.

Good to see May have a solid last start in St Louis. Basically that’s what you hope for him at his best…a decent #3/4 type guy. Hopefully one of the contenders is willing to give us something solid for him, would be nice to add at least a FV 50 guy in a trade as that would be a top 10ish guy in our system.
