Just checked the score and am in a state of both disbelief and shock. Love our team and generally the direction it’s heading………but I’m officially calling it a wrap…….we’re stone cold sellers.

You’re absolutely correct, stlcard25. In an odd, but understanding sort of way, with the Cards not playing consistent winning baseball at this juncture, Bloom has to be exhaling a sigh of relief. But after this season it’s GAME ON…….he’ll never easily grasp losing again.

Wow – checked the score earlier and it was 7-0. I felt good but saw it was only the fifth inning, and thought “I wish it was the seventh, but still they should win this one.
Then later saw it was 7-3. Got home and checked and we lost 8-7!! Holy schmoly!!
Seems like Churxh is really struggling. Every game I check the box he has an “oh-fer.”
Well that one was a gut punch. At least it saves me from watching the condensed game tomorrow morning.
And I see the Pirates have basically pulled even with us, both clubs 10 1/2 behind the Brewer Buzzsaw.
Well after watching some of the game yesterday, i had some other stuff to do today but i did check the score, 7-0 us. I thought its in the bag but i get home tonight and i see we blew it. It happens but thats kind of crazy. To me though i already felt we should be sellers so this game regardless wasnt changing that. . We still have a lot of holes to fix and stuff to get right before we start yammering about playoffs n such. I believe that time will come, its just not yet.
And even if they sweep the Angels in the upcoming series, it will say little. Mo’s Halos are the absolute worst team in MLB currently.
Not sure how I feel about this, but in the first two games of the series, their starter has a lower ERA than the Cardinals’ starter. Perhaps that leaves the hope that LA’s bullpen will be the worse of the two. Given the state of StL’s pen right now, one has to wonder about that…

Regardless, Bloom has bigger fish to fry than trying to worry about which team is going to sweep us 2-0 in the wild card round. He is concerned about 2027 and 2028.
As he should be. Trying to serve multiple masters was the M.O. for too long. Do one thing the absolutely best way you can.

Of course, they are concerned. However, like everything in life, there are no absolutes. The balance between competing now and competing later has shifted toward the latter for a while. But if all goes well, it will shift back at a point they can really contend, not just hanging around the edges and hoping to get lucky and win a couple of games in October, which they haven’t done since 2019, pre-COVID. It was so long ago that not a single player from then remains on the team.
As they say, hope is not a strategy. I like their direction.

In my opinion the product in 2026 has been better than expected. Most reasonable fans would not have predicted us to be tied for a wild card spot on July 20.
The laser focus in the organization should be making sure the product in 2027 and 2028 and 2029 is such that makes us a world series contender instead of hoping and praying for the third wild card spot.
To gscottar’s point, the team W/L percentage has improved from .459 last year to .504 currently. Average paid attendance is basically flat from 27,777 to 27,607 with another month-plus of summer gates ahead that should raise that average. I can’t prove it, but my eye test (one of your favorites) suggests there are fewer empty seats this year than last.
Totally concur with brian and gscottar. Ive been on that track for a long time, far predated bloom. You cant fall victim to the shiny stuff thats within your grasp. A lot of the fans finally realized this. It will take some time but its going in the right direction.
If Waino spent his first season in the bullpen, I really don’t understand why they can’t bring several of the Memphis starters to firm up the major league bullpen right now.
Every player is ready at a different time. Is a promotion and role change the best step for the player’s development? Chasing a wild card isn’t a good reason, IMO.
We have been on the periphery of a wild card spot the last few years and I always wanted us to go for it but was repeatedly told that selling out the farm in order to just get squashed by the big boys was why we were in the situation we were in in the first place.
I heard that so many times that I now believe it. I think we should sell.
When did the Cardinals sell out the farm to make the playoffs?
What tradeable assets do we have this year?

The only tradeable asset on an expiring deal is Romero – who is on the IL.
Not trading players and letting the players on the team see how far they go impacts the future exactly zero.
