A move that had to be made. If O’Neill doesn’t get the call north with the way he’s been mashing, it would be pretty darn discouraging for the young farmhands. I have a really good hunch that O’Neill is going to continue his torrid hitting with the big club. I’d give my left……..my left pinkie if O’Neill could play 2nd.
Five consecutive wins on the road is certainly nothing to sneeze at!
( we shouldn’t mention that 4 of them were against the Reds )
Game off! 5-3 your joyous final!
In Bud Norris We Trust. Think it’s too late to get him on the 2019 $1 bill? Oh oh….base knock now with Schwarber representing the tying run at the dish.
Just think what Nolan Ryan could have done pitching against our boys, Colhusker. 23….maybe 24 K’s?
Thinking out loud here on that foul ball into Bartman Land….I bet he likes cold games such as this so he can hide under about 5 layers of clothes….bet on a night like this he’s a total foul ball hog.
Buddy Norris just flat out pitches great when a Cardinal uniform is in full view. Glad he’s in our uni now….He’s a keeper!
Reach into the stands, Yadi!
Any way to bring Hicks back into this one????
Well that erases Carpenter’s feat, as Baez goes yard with one mate onboard. 5-3.
***Typo Alert Typo Alert*
Carpenter’s 2-run single was actually to center, not left. I blame BicycleMike as I was engrossed in his previous post during Carpenter’s heroics.
Carpenter comes through with a line drive base hit to left plating a deuce! 5-1 Cards!!!
Bases now overflowing with Birds with 2 outs….. with Carpenter grabbing the lumber, Strop will exit as Duensing enters. Base knock here would be huge…as we harken back to Saturdays cub game vs Atlanta.
Bader absolutely destroys a base hit to left….well headed towards left if the wind was blowing the other way.
DeJong DePosits one into the left field cheap seats and it’s 3-1 Good Guys!
Top of 4.
Garcia – Raps it routinely on the ground out to 2nd where Baez scoops it up and successfully executes the short toss over to Rizzo’s waiting mitt at 1st.
DeJong – Whiffs hacking….Chatwood’s 6th on the evening.
Waino – Skies it high in back of Baez at 2nd and the backpeddling cub 2nd baseman will have it to retire the side.
Cards 2
cubs 0Oh Oh! Waino punches the first 2 cubs out with ease here in the bottom of the 3rd and now he fills the bsses to their capacity, compliments of 2 walks and a hit batsman…now Schwarber strolls ominously to the dish….dont point towards center Schwarber!!….strikes out to retire the side with no damage!
Top of 3.
Fowler – Walks…nice way to start the frame. Chatwood already has amassed 48 pitches in this affair.
Pham – Walks on a low one and now let us not have an encore performance of the previous inning when Catwood walked the first 2 and then promptly whiffed the next 3.
Carpenter – Blasts a drive to deep right!!! And Hurricane Henry won’t prevent this baby from exiting the yard…oh my God it’s off the wall….Fowler will score with Pham having to apply the brakes at 3rd on the double and it’s 1-0 good guys….wow how did that not get into the seats!
Ozuna – You had to chuckle a bit at Marcell when he caught that short fly to left for the first out last inning, as he kept his bare hand in his pocket and merely flicked the ball from his glove to DeJong to keep warm….he’s kind of dressed like a member of the Dominican bobsled team here tonight…. grounds it out to Russell at short and he’ll keep Carpenter at 2nd but Pham will come prancing in with the second Redbird run as the cub shortstop will gun out Ozuna at 1st.
Martinez – Grounds out to short with Carpenter taking up new residency at 3rd.
Yadi – Grounds out to Bryant at 3rd to retire the side.
Cards 2
cubs 0
Top of 2.
Jose Martinez – Walks
Yadi – Walks… Yadi’s first in 57 plate appearances. Yadi fouled off a few Chatwood offerings to earn the free pass.
Garcia – Stroked 2 long ones on Saturday in Cincy….do I hear 3 for tonight? Strikes out on a breaking ball.
DeJong – Goes down swinging for the second out here in the second.
Waino- And Chatwood emerges from The Marianna Trench in this inning to strike out the final 3 batters, as Adam watches strike 3 sail on by to retire the side.

cubs 0Top of 1. Chatwood dealing for the cubs. Wind blowing in big time here at Wrigley. Going to have to hit a scorching liner to left to shank one in the seats this evening.
Fowler – On 1-2, went fishing and came up empty on a terribly low pitch.
Pham – Whiffs gazing….and Chatwood has some serious movement on his heaves early on here.
Carpenter – Walks.
Ozuna – Hits a lazy fly to right where Heyward has it measured….and the ex-Brave/Card has it over near the line to retire the side.
Cards o
cubs 0Too bad this wasn’t a 10 game series as this lowly Reds squad couldn’t presently beat an opposing team with Otis Taylor fielding balls over at 3rd, Bernard Fife playing short, Floyd the barber at 2nd, Andy Taylor at 1st and Bea Taylor manning the top step of the dugout. But this will change. No way a ML club is this bad. This team will get hot….sizzling hot…. hopefully next month at around this time when they square off against the cubbies for the first time in ’18. As a quick aside, I issued enough posts this weekend to choke a horse. Only one problem…. when I hit the “SUBMIT” button, my post wouldn’t register. Hopefully now fixed.
I wanted Tommy Herr on that list. I went with Tudor & Lankford.
Huge dongaroo by Carp last night, for had the Crew won that game, they would without doubt have put the finishing touches on the sweep today. Even if the pitching matchup today was Bob Gibson vs ……..Bob McClure.
Tell you what….. if Sosa does indeed receive that call to join the big club here in the next week, I’m sure that I won’t be the only one demanding that BlackHillsCard have the word “Co-Keymaster” emblazoned below his name.
April 8, 2018 at 3:37 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47981Leone has done nothing to impress me thus far in a Cardinal uni. Speaking of foul language, Leone had me thinking of a few on his home run giveaway night here at Miller Park earlier this week.
