Love Prendergast in this one. Wisconsin, who hung 15 on the board last night, will be lucky to post 2 runs with the likes of Prendergast dealing. I’m forecasting Elvis to go yard with the Good Guys prevailing 6-1.

A game such as this is how tailspins are formed. I fear a looming major freefall in the standings. Contenders don’t lose games in this fashion….plain and simple. You see it every September while watching playoff bound teams, where it’s announced a team is 77-0 when leading after 7 innings or 83-0 when leading after 8 innings of play. There will be no such accolades associated with our Cardinals later this year. We are only a month into this marathon and have already coughed up more leads than Danica Patrick at a Daytona 500 race. Let’s see….. we have the middle game of our series at Miller Park where we held a commanding 4-1 advantage heading to the bottom of the 8th. Milwaukee hit us with 2 runs in the 8th and then solo jacks by Braun and Yelich in the 9th put the finishing touches on a heartbreaking Cardinal loss. Then there was the Diamondbacks hitting us with 3 8th inning runs to give them the series victory in St. Louis. And how about just this past Tuesday vs NY where the Mets tagged our bullpen with single tallies in the 8th and 10th frames for the victory. I’m just going off the top of my head here…it seems that I’m missing another late collapse. Anyway you get the point, red flags abound as to our chances for October play…. and unfortunately, these flags are not cardinal red in color.

Rain…… hmmmm…I like it, Rat! I swear you must come from a long line of meteorologists….a very long line from at least the 1600’s. Well let us hope that these probable rains stay behind our 3 river convergence and we get this baby in. I’d hate to have too many of these games to make up later in the year.

The convergence of 3 powerful rivers into 1 must indeed create weather disturbances, Rat. Maybe Rat can come up with an appropriate name for this meteorological phenomena. What a dependable sort Miles has been for us. He tosses another dandy tonight and you can count me in as a Mikolas true believer.

Three players……three mortal lock can’t miss players in Peoria. I haven’t been this exited about a trio since I was but a wee lad and Charlie’s Angels hit the scene. Evan Guillory, Juan “Pez” Yepez and Elehuris “Elvis” Montero. The words “walk” and “free pass” are simply not in Guillory’s vocabulary. And Pez & Elvis? What we have here before our amazing eyes are two players who have figured things out. Two dynamic players who are blossoming into future stars of this great game. These two budding stars should never see the city lights of Palm Beach. By June 1st, they should both be jettisoned to Springfield.

You changed my way of thinking on this topic, Brian. But I still find it hard to imagine Albert not hitting .300 in St. Louis. Concerning Albert’s age, lying about it probably weighed very heavy on his mind….getting caught. I know this first hand. I met this super attractive older woman shortly after finishing college. Right off the bat I told her I was 25 when I was only 22. She was 35 at the time. I guess I figured my chances were better with her if our age differential wasn’t so wide. I never dreamed that I would end up living with her for the next 6 years. Keeping that secret was emotionally very taxing. Always hiding my ID and stuff. I look back now and wonder what in blazes I was doing. Anyway my point is that Albert most likely was always on edge, hoping that his real age would never be discovered. It had to adversely affect his play to some degree.

Right now I’d trade Fowler, Ozuna…heck throw in Wong and Bowman too for good measure, to Milwaukee for Yelich.

Don’t mean to pile on a guy who’s in such a funk and quite possibly a bit injured, though he can’t be ailing too bad or he wouldn’t be trotting out there every night. But gosh darn it, my first thought upon hearing about the Ozuna acquisition was “WHY DIDN’T WE TAKE YELICH INSTEAD”???? We could have had him… we could have had him!

And two more quick thoughts…. Hicks finally giving up a run was just a mere “Hickup”….was bound to happen some day. But is the guy ever going to register a strikeout in a game? And is DeWhiffer ever going to get through a game without striking out at least once???

Would Albert’s batting average have dipped so drastically if he had stayed in St. Louis? I think not. Come on….. Albert Pujols hitting .240 in a Cardinals uniform. Not in a million years. Only if he was forced to bat left handed. Sure, a drop off was only natural, but not as drastic as Albert’s. I bet if Albert had remained a Cardinal, he would have passed that 3000 hit plateau before last year’s all-star game.

Did I go to the US Open? Some call me Pugsley “Erin Hills” Addams, Rat.

For me, this series is going to be a pretty fair indicator of what kind of a club we have. After losing 2-3 earlier in NY, if the Mets come in here and handle us again, then it will signal the start of my doubts as to if our Birds are serious contenders. We have to beat quality teams….. Cincinnati is gone…. and they aren’t coming back for a while.

Albert still looks odd to me in an Angels uni. He’ll enter the Hall in his current uniform, but to real baseball fans, he’ll always be a Cardinal first and that team out on the left coast second. It’s not a 50-50 thing like say an Andre Dawson. If someone had a gun to my head and shouted at me to give a compelling case for Andre being sent to the Hall with the Expos over the cubs or vice versa, I’d have to tell them to fire away because I honestly couldn’t do it.

Like I was saying earlier this week, you’d have to be borderline cRaZy to not believe we were going to sweep these guys again this weekend. These Redlegs are so horrific that I think they need to add a new column to the standings. Of course we already have the columns for “W”(Wins), “L”(Loss), “GB” (Games Behind) and “GBW” (Games Behind Wildcard). Why not for 2018 have a “GRR” for (Games Remaining with Reds)? Since any team can basically count a “GRR” as a win, it really gives we fans a glimpse into how things are going to shape up in the divisional and wild card races….especially in the NL Central, where it’s teams are the fortunate recipients of many “GRR”s. Now Cincinnati fans can fear not as this “GRR” column may just be a one year thing. Next year during the month of April if the Reds look as if they are serious contenders to win 40+ games, then the “GRR” column can certainly be removed.

Bullish on our Birds, but feel compelled to call this game as I see it. This simply is a game that we cannot under any circumstances win. I like nothing better than sitting down on Sunday afternoons and catching our Cards in action. Tomorrow (Sunday) I’m hitting the fairways.

Nice to see our Chiefs lay a whooping on Wisconsin this evening in front of just shy of 1900 Dosier faithfuls. 7-1 your happy final, as both Elehuris “Elvis” Montero and Bryce “Bam Bam” Denton left the yard…..”Bam Bam’s” with the bases juiced. Evan Guillory and Zach Prendergast were simply marvelous on the hill for the home team. Guillory turned in a sparkling 6 innings of labor, yielding a run on 5 hits, while striking out 6 and issuing no free passes. And Prendergast was the epitomy of perfection in his 3 frames, surrending no base runners and whiffing 5.

Terrible timing for this! Well, there goes our sweep this weekend…..right on down the drain. I think we still take Cindy 2-3, but no way we sweep. I don’t think a manager of a MLB team had EVER lost his first 3 games, when hired after the season began. Think about it….. I don’t think it’s ever occurred. Emotions ( whether good or bad) and adrenaline run high with managerial mid-season changes. And when those two things merge, increased athletic performance is a certainty. The only difficult aspect to predict is how long the improved play will last. Well last week at this time if someone had told me we’d take the Reds six out of the next seven games, I would have jumped with joy…..7-7 would have been mighty sweet though.

I’m certain of 3 things today. No hitter in Wrigley will eclipse the center field wall, Lester will not go further than 7 frames and for the first time in about a week, it will not snow in Madison, Wisconsin.

If the scrubs recently came back from a 10-2 deficit in the 8th inning, our Birds can certainly make minced meat out of Lester & company, down only 6-1 after 3.

The wind cost Bryant a 3-run tater to center….4-1 cubs on the sac fly with Baez doing what more fleet footed players should do….taking 2nd on long fly balls. 5-1 and Weaving is not weaving much magic on the hill today. Now he konks Contreras.

3-1 cubs now on a broken bat Almora base knock to right. 1 out here in the bottom of the 2nd. Weaver has uncharacteristically yielded 6 hits already.
