Anybody see any repercussions to Wong’s comment about pissing off the Cubs fans in attendance? When the Cubs win a game against us at Wrigley this year will one of their players make the comment about pissing off the Cardinal fans in attendance?

This wont turn out to be a “Rally Comment” for the Cubs, now, will it?

Only if people blow it totally out of proportion, and if so, it would not be the first time. Joe Maddon also has a history in the area of using words to try to motivate his team.

For those who missed it, here is what Wong said in the on-field interview, just after his home run ended the game.

Nothing wrong with it, it’s a rivalry. If the Cards let this negatively alter the course of their season in a significant way, then they aren’t good enough to matter anyway.

After listening to non stop trash talk from Cubs fans the last three years I’m not bothered by Wong’s comments. I’m glad to see our guys show some life against the north siders.

Yeah who cares what the Cubs or their fans think of it.

Yep…..nicely phrased, GScott!! All the fake motivation in the world aren’t bailing the north riders out this year because those boys are going down…all the way to 3rd place.

Zero issue with the comment. I hope the Cubs fans go home miserable every game night the rest of history.

When you are a competitor, and in the heat of the moment in a rivalry game you sometimes say stuff like this. I think it’s great – shows passion.

Nothing wrong with it at all. I happen to be reading a book about Dizzy Dean right now, and Dean was the king of this sort of thing. He was constantly making boasts about what he would do to an opponent, and most of the time he backed it up.

Wong let the emotion of the moment get to him a little by saying it on the air, but it is for sure said on the bench and in the clubhouse just like how he was saying it.

But it is nice when little things like this sneak out, we know the guys think like this and it makes them more real when we hear them speak and act like we do about rivalries and winning and losing

Motivation wont be any higher because he said it, the rivalry is already there

I think the BAez patting himself on the back and staring at the dugout after his HR is a bigger issue and will probably cause more angst in the Cardinals clubhouse more than what Wong said

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Baez wear one in the ribs before the season is over.

Wong’s comments were nothing. Most of you seem to forget the heated rivalry the Cards and Cubs had when TLR and Dusty were coaching.
