Wacha motors down that line pretty darn well. Anytime your pitcher leads off the inning with a hit, you darn well better score.
Hate walking Schwarber…..hate walking anyone except Joey Votto. Keep an eye on the big lug….he may try to steal.
Pardon me…thought this was the game thread. Will have to figure out how to delete.
Average size arms….legs too. I thought Kris Bryant was more buff than this.
jj-cf-stl, stlcard25 and Cardinals2016…..all sweet posts! Bader in and Fowler out, Schrock in and Wong to utilityman status and acquiring a top notch 3rd baseman via trade…..and I’ll die a happy man!
Yep…..nicely phrased, GScott!! All the fake motivation in the world aren’t bailing the north riders out this year because those boys are going down…all the way to 3rd place.
I don’t know about “all of the wrong moves”, but I’ll tell you what the right move would be. Coming on the heels of Wong’s walkoff, I don’t expect any sympathy for my frustration in not getting this spark plug up where he belongs…with the big club. Max Schrock. Remember Fernando Vina’s finest 3 years with our Cards? Well, Schrock will even better Fernando’s feats as a Bird. I want Schrock up here as quick as possible!
Indeed a tough decision, Wagee12….. and one that the previous poster (the esteemed RatsBuddy) struggles with on a consistent basis. Though The High Chaparral is one I’ve never seen Rat mention. I think RatsBuddy was more into Bonanza and Audra from The Big Valley. Speaking of Audra, she was amongst my Top 5 tv hotties as a kid.
1. Carol Post from Mr. Ed.
2. Emily Hartley from The Bob Newhart Show
3. Maryann from Gilligan’s Island
4. Audra from The Big Valley
5. Marilyn Munster from The MunstersLove we get this third game on prime time tv. Lester usually has our number…but not tomorrow night….not in this game. Following his career patterns and the circumstances surrounding this start, he’s ripe to get ripped. I see a lot of runs being scored…possibly by both clubs.
Mikey likey
With all of his potential, the cubs have to be at least thinking of Schwarber not being their answer as their starting left fielder. And Bryant. Those vicious head beanings have a way of changing careers. Not saying he won’t be a perennial all star, but it could have it’s effect. With some batters they can’t help not digging in at the dish with the same comfortable gusto.
Believe in our pen! Just keep Leone and Holland away from the action.
I wish his first name was “Mickey. How sweet would that be….Mickey Mikolas. With a name like that how could you not be a consistent 20 game winner. Anyway, kudos to Mo & Co. for bringing him home to us. Remember, the guy can stroke the long ball himself every now and then too. StlCard25…..he could go 12 frames tonight if needed.
When I was a kid, fan clubs were all the rage. They’ve gone the way of the dinosaur. Mikolas rekindles those fond memories.
Well well well….the weekend of reckoning is almost upon us. Trust me when I say these 3 games vs the cubs are going to tell us what our club is made of. Not just from a talent perspective, but more importantly from a mental one. A statement will be made this weekend. If we sweep these guys, watch out! They could be a much more cohesive unit than what most of us think. If our Birds take 2-3, I think 2018 is going to be a fun ride. Lose 2-3, and it’s going to be a very long season. Get swept and we are 100% sellers as the trade deadline approaches.
You bet they would, BlackHills. If Albert was within 5 hits of 3000, Cards fans would be rocking the house in hopeful anticipation. This is the quietest quest for an approaching 3000 that I’ve ever seen. Albert has to be missing Cardinal fans. In St. Louis he was a God. In LA, I bet barely 2 people out of 10 could pick Albert out of a lineup, while 7 out of 10 could most likely peg Heidi Fleiss.
– Funny stuff BicycleMike!
– We joke around about UCONN’s cakes, but for those of you who haven’t indulged, you don’t know what you’re missing. For those interested, UCONN will gladly email you her Cardinal cake catalog…. or “CCC” as she refers to it. Some are a bit pricey, but well worth the coin. Three of my favs are her 7 layer cake of Busch stadium for $149.99 and two others celebrating ex-Cardinal players. The Albert Pujols Angel Food cake and the Joe Kelly Boston Creme Pie for $39.99 a pop are great buys. Will anyone amongst us be terribly shocked if Cy Giolito tosses the game of his life this afternoon?
As long as it was equivocal, Euro. And CardsRedSox4Ever is right too. Our Birds would most likely have came up short last night with their effort, or lack thereof, against any team other than either of the modern participants of the franchises from the scandalous 1919 World Series. But honestly, heads need to roll in our advanced scouting department because our boys look absolutely clueless vs these rookie hurlers. How much do you want to bet that Kingham gets lit up in his next start vs Milwaukee? Now that’s a team (Brewers) whose advanced scouting department actually pays attention to the games they are watching instead of messing around with their cellphones for half the game.
A win is a win……even if it’s against the White Sox or Reds. You have to feel a bit soria for James Shields though. He hasn’t thrown a gem like tonight’s for the past 5 years. And isn’t likely to again in the next 5 years….unless he faces our Birds again. Why is it that rookie and gray haired starters fare so well vs the Cards hitters? Been like that for a few years now. It has to be a lame advanced scouting crew. I’m calling for their immediate and unequivocal removal.
Ok…guess we’re playing the ChiSox at home. Really makes little difference as there’s 2 teams that we can beat at home, on the road, Flagstaff…anywhere. And the White Sox are one of these teams. Getting on to the state of affairs….drastic times calls for drastic measures. Wong as the starting 2nd baseman just isn’t working. The man is a utilityman…period. Max Schrock is just the spark plug we need. Get him up here now! The man is twice the hitter that Wong could ever hope to be. Fowler needs to go. Carpenter isn’t ready to be put out to pasture yet, but let’s either put him on the DL or just regulate him to a pinch hitting/DH role until he’s physically ready to play the field properly. I’d try this:
1. Pham (CF)
2. Schrock (2B)
3. Martinez (1B)
4. DeJong (SS)
5. Ozuna (LF)
6. Yadi (C)
7. Gyroko (3B)
8. Fowler….for now. (RF)Our prayers have been answered! This upcoming series vs the downtrodden ChiSox promises to be just the remedy to get this flailing Redbird club right back on track. If we can’t have the Reds then the White Sox are the next best thing. And the Cards get the Sox just where you’d want to get them….. on THEIR home field. Believe it or not, the White Sox at 2-10, have even a more dismal home field record than the Reds. Looking forward past this series, after the other Chicago team comes into St. Louis to shut us down for 3 games, our bumbling Birds then are fortunate enough to play the next 8 games vs the lowly Twins, who just got drilled at home this past weekend 2-3 games to the Reds by a combined score of 24-14 and then the always beatable San Diego Padres. Other goodies are coming compliments of a most favorable schedule…. the ChiSox come back for more punishment in a series in St. Louis. Our Cards also get treated to the likes of lame teams such as Miami, the Royals, the Pads again….and get this….a whole bunch more games vs Cincinnati.
Winston Nicacio got lit up in Wisconsin this afternoon to the tune of 7 earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings of labor. Malcom, Dobzanski & Blanco kept the Wisconsinites pretty much in check the rest of the way, yielding just 2 runs while striking out 10 and issuing nary a free pass. Hurst and Rodriguez tallied 3 hits a piece in the losing effort…. 9-5 Bad Guys your unhappy final.
It’s time and everyone in the Cardinal organization certainly must know it.
George Kissell would absolutely throw a tizzy with all of these shenanigans! Obviously, the organization didn’t have the foresight to have George groom someone to take his place. Yes, there is only one George Kissell, but George could have trained some worthy understudy to at least keep the ship afloat. We miss you George!!!
I trust Leone about as much as I do Kim Jong-un. Bombs away Pirates!
My apologies to my fellow posters for being off base on my Peoria prediction earlier this morning. It’s not often that I miss-call one of our minor league games. If any of you lost money as a result, I feel doubley bad. To recap, I predicted Prendergast to completely stifle the beefy Wisconsin offense….this occurred. I predicted Irving “Elvis” Lopez to whack a dinger….this occurred. I predicted our Chiefs to win the game by the score of 6-1……but the Chiefs actually won by the score of 6-2….ouch! Sorry gang!
