Well CMart was wild today but good enough to win had the offense and defense bothered to show up. 3 errors will most likely lead to a loss for any team. The lack of hitting is pathetic.
May 8, 2018 at 2:13 pm #51474Has it been confirmed that Waino is coming off the DL Sunday? They talked about a cautious approach in bringing him back during the game. Gant’s rotation spot regardless of where he’s pitching is due up Saturday. He may very well be up for the weekend to piggyback a starter.
Gosh for a collective who didn’t want a extra arm for the pen you seemed to be worried about a spot occupied normally by Mike Mayers. lol
It doesn’t really matter! This team can’t find any offense quickly it’ll never see first place again after the weekend.

stlcard25ParticipantTbh, if you just watched these two games you would think the Twins were in first place and the Cards were the dregs.
May 8, 2018 at 2:17 pm #51476Marcel Ozuna has been a flat out bust. You can cry about Fowler all you want but at least he has an excuse due to his snails start last season. I at least have a hope he’ll get it going. I have almost no hope Ozuna will ever reach his 2017 potential. And his defense has been awful and should be in RF.
May 8, 2018 at 2:21 pm #51477LMAO at the fact the Cards have more errors than hits today.
Booyah, my understanding is Waino is coming off the DL on Saturday. He was supposed to be back in St. Louis after his game in Springfield yesterday.
May 8, 2018 at 2:25 pm #51478I just realized Dexter Fowler has a -0.9 bWAR. While I don’t believe WAR is the be-all and end-all of Stats/Analytics, I do believe its a very good gauge on players. Someone explain to me why Dexter Fowler remains in the line-up day-in and day-out.
Because he is making $16.5 million and Bader is only making $500k
May 8, 2018 at 2:30 pm #51479Why the rush? Waino wouldn’t be up until Sunday. That’s his rotation spot correct? Mikolas, Weaver, Wacha, Waino
And Waino is at the park today.
This is pathetic!
May 8, 2018 at 2:34 pm #51480Does anybody really believe that Martinez is going to be the Ace that we have long thought he would eventually be???
May 8, 2018 at 2:37 pm #51481
stlcard25ParticipantRats, he already is an ace. The days of the Waino, ace goes 7-8 IP every start with a mid 2s ERA are over. Or at least reserved for the very very elite guys. Martinez has an ERA under 2 this year and has given us a great shot to win every one of his starts save for the first one. I’ll take it.

I know there are all sorts of new fangle stats people believe in but we have to regulars hitting under .200 which at this point in the season should result in some pine time. Add to that there are 4 regulars with more strikeouts than hits at this point. Tell me again how we have been so bad at the plate the last several years and Mabry is still getting a paycheck.

This
May 8, 2018 at 2:40 pm #51484It’s vintage MArtinez. He’ll pull it together for 2-3 starts, have a bad start and follow it up with some 6 inning clunker and then pull it together for 2-3 starts.
He’s not an ace but he’s about a #2 as you can get.
May 8, 2018 at 3:05 pm #51485Ugh what a ugly game.
Carp needs to no play for awhile period another 0- day so far..
May 8, 2018 at 3:12 pm #51486In 18 innings against a sub .500 team, this Mabry led offense mustered up 1 run, 6 hits and 14 K’s
When will the front office get it.
May 8, 2018 at 3:18 pm #51488CMart pitched good enough this team should have won. The defense was absolutely garbage and the offense was nonexistent. 3 errors and 2 hits! That’s disgusting.
Carp and Fowler are both hitting around .150 and need to be benched.

He is a reflection of this team. Can’t stand prosperity. The offense, without Pham and Molina, flat out sucked these last two games.May 8, 2018 at 4:03 pm #51491It’s time for a platoon of Carp and Martinez.
and the benching of Gyorko and Wong was just plain dumb but I doubt it would’ve mattered today.
On to San Diego where the way this team is playing we’d be lucky to walk out with a split. So glad I’m only paying to attend one of these games. The other 2 are comped.
May 8, 2018 at 7:34 pm #51509C-Husker, I’m with you on Mabry. Still don’t understand his hitting philosophy, if he even has one. Our guys are lost at the plate against left handed pitching and can’t hit a slider away except for Yadi. I’d like to see a stat on first pitch swings vs first pitch called strikes. I’ll bet it’s pretty low.
May 8, 2018 at 8:33 pm #51514Never a pleasant experience to get swept….especially on your home field….and to a sub .500 club….and to a team who recently got manhandled at home to the lowly Redlegs. But on the other hand, these Twins have now won their last 5 games…. all on the road….and by a combined score of 32-12. Though not beneficial in the standings, maybe these past two games will not be a total loss in that it will serve our younger players well down the road. It’s hard to believe players taking any team lightly at this level….wait a second….until this year that is. If I may, I would like to submit into evidence the 2018 Cincinnati Reds as the exception to this rule. It is perfectly acceptable for any player( from Cincinnati too ), coach, administrator, media person or fan, to NOT take this year’s Reds squad seriously.
May 8, 2018 at 8:50 pm #51516Outscored at home 13-1 by Minnesota, after an exciting sweep of the rival Cubs. Quite a letdown.
Like many here, I do not understand the continuing use of Carpenter. The guy’s production has been like an escalator going down for three years now. On the TV broadcast McLaughlin said something about how his batting average with two strikes has noticeably decreased in recent seasons. This year he is hitting something like .077 when he is in a count with two strikes. The book on him is pretty easy – throw him a first pitch strike and get ahead, as he won’t swing on the first one. Then work to stay ahead in the count, preferably with pitches up in the zone, and you got him.
Matheny needs to use Gyorko and Wong on a regular basis, and of course Martinez at first. On occasion he can spot-start Carpenter at first against a righty, but you do that at most twice a week.
Fowler gets a pass right now, but when Pham is back you can’t keep him in there, can you? Again, you might spot start him here and there against a righty pitcher, but that is about it.
Both guys, Carpenter and Fowler, have hit big home runs to win games for us in the last week or so, and you hope that will be a sign that they are breaking out of it. But it just ain’t happening.

I am surprised it took that long for teams to catch on to that…though last year he did swing at first pitches more often, the previous year I don’t think he swung at a first pitch until August…

Martinez hits LHP’s far better than RHP’s. I’d be fine with a platoon of him and Carp, with the one sitting as the first bat off the bench…
Fowler gets a pass right now,
We are 1/5 through the season, and we know what we have with Fowler – somebody struggling on offense for whatever reason (same as last year to this point), and who really doesn’t care about defense…It’s sad that his contract determines playing time.
May 8, 2018 at 9:39 pm #51520.152 / .305 / .296 / .601
.246 / .277 / .328 / .605
.151 / .264 / .303 / .567Those 3 slash lines are in the top five of our batting order. Yep, double down and keep going with that. Now add in Bader and Pena/Kelly…get used to it.
May 8, 2018 at 9:44 pm #51521To me Carpenter looks like he’s just going through the motions. But I’m not sure that isn’t partly Matheny’s fault.
