Will Matheny let the hot bats play tomorrow?
May 11, 2018 at 10:14 pm #51793
stlcard25ParticipantNice string of homers tonight. Very needed to get the bats going. Now let’s hope they can sustain it!
May 11, 2018 at 10:15 pm #51794The hit parade ends after a pitching change. 6-0 after top of 3.
May 11, 2018 at 10:23 pm #51795Staked to a 6 run lead, Weaver pitches an efficient third inning, throwing just 11 pitches
May 11, 2018 at 10:28 pm #51796Wong gets his second walk of the day, but Cardinals bats go silent against the right-hander, Mitchell
May 11, 2018 at 10:34 pm #51797Another efficient, 11 pitch inning from Weaver. Still 6-0 after 4
May 11, 2018 at 10:43 pm #51798Ozuna walked! Gyorko singled and Ozuna went to third on an error. DeJong singled in Ozuna. 7-0!
May 11, 2018 at 10:50 pm #51799Weaver forgets he has a 7 run lead and issues a leadoff walk. Ugh
May 11, 2018 at 10:56 pm #51800Some nifty game action updates….thanks, Cardinals2016!! You know, we just may have found yours truly’s sidekick in the PBP booth.
Funny stuff UCONN & Grays!! Thanks for the tips, Brian!
May 11, 2018 at 11:06 pm #51801So I thought Petco Park was supposed to be pitcher friendly? Cards are launching Homers tonight. Someone call NASA!!!
May 11, 2018 at 11:07 pm #51802Greg Garcia pinch hits for Weaver, who thankfully was removed after 92 pitches, including a 23 pitch 5th inning with a leadoff walk…
Tommy Pham hits the 5th HR of the night…9-0!
May 11, 2018 at 11:09 pm #51803Well, Pugs, now that I am out on the West Coast, I can stay up for these west coast games…
And yes, it looks like the rest of the team are tired of sending Carpenter and Fowler out there and are making a demand for more playing time.
May 11, 2018 at 11:10 pm #51804Ozuna and Gyorko end their perfect nights at the plate, but two more runs added. 9-0
May 11, 2018 at 11:12 pm #51805And wow, the Cardinals might be on to something here. Garcia stays in the game and Jose Martinez comes out in a defensive substitution. Why don’t they do this in close games?
May 11, 2018 at 11:13 pm #51806To a man, I think we all have contemplated what we would do if we were managing a team and our boys were administering a major league arse-kicking on our opponent. I would consider a double digit lead heading to the 7th inning as one of those glorious occasions where you would literally call off the dogs. At this point, I would choose not to continue embarrassing the opposition. Running up the score is not a very classy thing to do and can actually work against you down the road when you play them again. So, from the 7th inning on, I would have each and every batter get a little bunting practice in by trying to lay one down. The only exception to this mercy rule being if you were pummeling the daylights out of the cubbies . Then as the Cardinals skipper you would have no choice but to keep lambasting the heck out of them.
May 11, 2018 at 11:15 pm #51807Of course, now, we have the pitcher hitting in the #3 spot, so…always gotta be Mathenaging…
May 11, 2018 at 11:17 pm #51808I like your style, Cardinals2016. When ever you are ready to team up for a West coast game, give me a holler and we will book it.
May 11, 2018 at 11:19 pm #51809I am sure bunting with a 9 run lead violates many unwritten rules of baseball
May 11, 2018 at 11:22 pm #51810It sure does, Cardinals2016. You have to have a 10 run lead….not 9. We are getting mighty close here at 9-zip.
May 11, 2018 at 11:24 pm #51811There’s your mercy, Pugs. Bring in Bowman.
May 11, 2018 at 11:26 pm #51812Oh oh…..Bowman is in and the Padre offense is in business here in the Padre 6th.
May 11, 2018 at 11:27 pm #51813Ha ha!!! Great line, Cardinals2016!! I’ll be here for tomorrow night’s game. I hope you will too.
May 11, 2018 at 11:28 pm #51814Well, Bowman only gave one run back, so the Cardinals still have a commanding lead. But for the Cardinals to start laying down bunts, they will need to score a couple more. As we now have a written rule that teams that are up by 10 must bunt the rest of the game, or until the other team scores.
May 11, 2018 at 11:37 pm #51815Sweet clarification of the “MR” (Mercy Rule), Cardinals2016. I’m bullish as all get out on Bader. You just know he’s going to start hitting. Couple that with his sparkling D and the intangibles and we’ve got ourselves a true blue-chipper. You win with players like a Bader….plain and simple.
May 11, 2018 at 11:39 pm #51816Anybody who grows up having his dad plunk him with a baseball so he has no fear when he reaches the big leagues sounds like a winner to me…
