cubbies may find the going tough next week at County stadium, Rat. Same goes for this weekend at Three Rivers…or are they at Wrigley? Cards should get your 4-6 at Riverfront and San Diego Stadium.

Balestrieri was simply marvelous. In my mind that’s a perfecto, not just a no-hitter. It’s not the pitcher’s fault a fielder booted one. Matter of fact, the error makes the perfecto look even more impressive since it extended the game an extra batter. Geesh imagine how impressive Balestrieri’s gem would have looked if he had had the big club’s defense behind him last night…. Fowler, Carpenter and Jose Martinez alone would have resulted in Balestrieri having faced at least an extra 3 or 4 batters. Speaking of Jose Martinez and Peoria, Peoria has an infielder by the name of Jose Martinez too. Jose drilled 2 hits last night for the Chiefs. The word is that this Jose Martinez, like the Cardinals’ Jose Martinez, may be somewhat defensively challenged. I’m thinking why not use the Peoria Jose Martinez as a sacrificial lamb if you will, to get the Cardinals’ Jose Martinez, on the fast track to becoming a defensive pillar of strength. Just bring the kid up to St. Louis for a few days to get tutored in the finer aspects of defensive infield play. And don’t have Oquendo teach him……..have Jose Martinez. What a total confidence builder that would be for our Jose Martinez. It probably transforms him into the next Mark Grace at 1st base. Instead of stumbling and bumbling his way around 1st base, Jose now would be the epitomy of stability and defensive strength. Now the kid, after being the unfortunate recipient of this sort of obtuse training, probably never recovers from the experience and most likey is out of professional baseball by season’s end. But sometimes you just have to take one for the team.

I’d ship him out via trade in a NY minute except for one problem. Who would want him? If he were 6 years younger we would be looking at some true value here. That’s not to say he is worthless. There are just too many red flags waving around him. This slump he’s experiencing now should be ending soon, so why trade him if we cannot get anything decent in return? However, if his personality is negatively effecting the team then you have no choice….get whatever you can for him.

A hardy hello to you too, Blingster! Bling would fit right in with our GTG……that’s Game Thread Gang to the layman. So hopefully Bling will start hanging out there now and then. As far as Fagalde’s age (24), it really is not that big a deal in his case. He should be in Palm Beach fairly soon and in Springfield at the start of 2019. My fear is that he’ll end up being a minor piece of a fairly major trade next month. Keep Fagalde!

That must have been pre-2006 when I wasn’t following our farm system very closely. What a fantastic baseball name though, UCONN!!

Cy Urena notches his maiden victory of the year vs 7 setbacks as Miami defeats the Cardinals this evening 7-4. Game ball? I thought I saw a Marlins player toss one to Martinez, but Jose dropped it…..not nice. Jose will get it going defensively…..hopefully.

Ok that’s enough….I absolutely love the guy, but can we call the Jose at 1st base experiment a wrap and have someone else mann the position?

Ha ha!!! Rub it in C olhusker! Thanks for that though….I didn’t think Cookie was a Phillie. “Dough” might have been a good nickname for Cookie, especially if he had been the recipient of a huge contract.

I’m not cheating by looking, Euro. Could he have been in the Flood deal too….no…Rojas was never a Phillie. I see Cookie in a Cards, Royals and maybe Pirates uni, but that’s it.

And now Carp’s arm costs us big time as his throw takes Martinez off the bag…but then again an aggressive mosquito could do that to the young Cards 1st baseman. 1st & 3rd no outs.b

Lyons toeing the rubber for St. Louis in the 7th. Bour, in a rather bouring at bat, flies out to Fowler in right to lead off the frame. Anderson grounds out to Carpenter at 3rd, but that arm of Carpenter just does not look sturdy….looks much better suited for 2nd base than 3rd. Rojas….any relation to Cookie? Walks. Oh oh….up strides Babe Riddle to the plate….lookie there….almost looked as if J. T. pointed out towards the center field bleachers. Riddle Whiffs to end the Inning! 7th inning stretch time…..still 7-4 Miami.

Munoz now grabs a seat while Conley grabs a ball. Cardinal runners occupying 1st & 2nd with Bader at the dish with 1 out. Bader strikes out swinging on a 3-2 Conley fast one. Carpenter goes down the same route as Bader and Mr. Conley has earned his paycheck here this evening with his 6th inning performance alone…….7-4 Fish as move along to the 7th.

Munoz center stage for Miami as Urena exits. Urena can win this puppy but cannot go to 0-8 on the campaign. Is it just me or do the Cardinals gift wrap a lot of “firsts” to opposing pitchers???

If you unscramble the letters in the Marlins starter’s ( Urena ) last name, you get “NearU”….that’s license plate material. The Fish now have runners in the corners with 1 out. Gomber CANNOT allow another Marlin to safely touch home plate. And there it is….Carpenter chases down a Dietrich fly foul ball wayyyy down the left field line with his back to home plate and the Marlin runner at 3rd can play Pin the tail on the donkey on his way to home plate as he easily scores the 7th run on the evening for Miami. If you’re Carpenter do you let that ball land in foul turf without catching it???

Shucks! And now the very next batter, Shuck, trots on down to 1st compliments of 4 wayward Gomber offerings.

J.T. Who???? You must be joking….Riddle…..J. T. Riddle DePosits a Gomber fastball into the center field seats and just like that! The Marlins get a run back.
