Wow! That bold statement is an eye-opener, TexasCard! But you are correct, sir. Yadi’s counterpart may prevail simply due to age……and I may even take Hendricks over Carlitos. I’m getting that sinking feeling that we may finish the campaign double digits off the pace. But they don’t play this game on paper so let’s get out there and get em tonight!
Dexter would be the exception to our “No Play No Way For 8 Months” Rule, Cardinals2016. With the way Dexter has performed….or better stated “not performed “, he should be encouraged to have as many offspring as possible….in season. So as to take as many maternity leaves as is humanly possible while the Cards are at play.
Just one more tidbit and then we’ll move on to the next topic. But almost all of the baseball greats adhered to the responsible practice of controlling their romantic urges for the betterment of their team. Almost to a man, these baseball greats had offspring born during the 4 month period between November 1st and March 1st.
I beg to differ with you, GScott. Jose could indeed control his maternity leave issues. As we are all well aware of, these guys make some pretty decent coin. The least they can do is to refrain from having unprotected romantic daliances for an 8 month period. This gives them all a 4 month free-for-all period to live it up. A little pre-planning on Jose’s part and he’s playing in this all important series this weekend vs our arch rivals. I’ve always been amazed that teams did not have stiff ( no pun intended ) contractual financial penalties in place to safeguard their team from these sort of preventable absences. You watch….one day soon, there’s going to be a big star leaving his team high and dry ( once again no pun intended ) by sitting in some hospital waiting room for days on end playing computer games on his phone instead of being with his team during the world series….and all heck is going to break loose! But you know, maybe that’s what it’s going to take to bring light upon this all important topic.
The name “Zach Jackson” kind of stood out from the rest on that Johnson City roster, so I googled him. Is the dude really 35 years old???? Guy should be their 3rd base coach instead of their backup catcher.
Bader’s soft liner to short with 2 mates onboard, mercifully puts this dismal affair to an end. 13-5 Bad Guys your unhappy final. You know….these cubbies have a few nice players, BUT they really aren’t that good. What does this say about our present cast though????
Looks like Brebbia has some spunk in him. Gotta love that! Hope it rubs off on the other 35! ( included some coaches, managers and key front office personnel into that figure too ).

CardsRedSox4Ever is absolutely right in that our team is completely void of any franchise type players ( with a grateful tip of the cap to our great catcher )……and this is a monumental problem. Have to bring Machado into the Redbird fold….just have to! Back up the Brinks truck and ink him to 7 years, Mo!!!Pham needs to phind it….dude has been a disappointment on a few different levels this year. Wonder what we could fetch in a deal for him? Not much I’m afraid.
Bader should be primed to hit Lester tonight. Wacha to hopefully make a statement. Are you thinking 2-1…..maybe a 3-2 ballgame here tonight with these two fine hurlers dealing? Nope. I’m calling this one 7-4 Cards with Bader finding the cheap seats.
Nice to see Alexander Fagalde handcuff Beloit’s Snappers this evening. Alex surrendered just one run on 7 hits while whiffing 6 Snappers and issuing no free passes. The Chiefs tallied a run in the bottom of the 10th to counter Beloit’s effort in the top half of the frame and then hit Beloit with yet another run in the bottom of the 11th to prevail 3-2. Dobzanski won it, moving his win-loss ledger to 5-2 and 3620 happy Dozer patrons witnessed the affair in a rather “snappy” 3 hours and 12 minutes.
You never truly know what you have in a player until they get their opportunity in the show, Rat. Nobody watching Joey Votto playing in the minors would have ever dreamed he would have blossomed into half the player he has become. Ditto for Matt Holliday and Robinson Cano. Even Albert would somewhat fit into this group. The majors are littered with players who barely cut the mustard in the minors. This doesn’t mean you send every minor league slug to the majors. But take a player with Schrock’s total profile and you better be giving him his shot……I have a tremendous feeling that this guy is going to be a dandy!
Schrock needs to be brought up yesterday. I don’t believe he hasn’t got his shot yet. Wong’s dependable glove has to be valued, but when you look at his complete package, you see the words “nice utilityman”. Mercado up….Fowler out…enough said on that topic.
I second GScott’s Carlos Delgado’s protege sentiments! Hard to imagine at age 19 this being a make-or-break season for a ballplayer, but that’s the way I view Delvin Perez’ 2018 campaign. Go get em kid!!
Oh geesh! Been ties up all night and just saw our score. How can a team that losses home series’ to the Royals, Marlins and Pads over a 30 day stretch, expect to be a serious playoff contender??? At this point, the only way I could be a believer again is if we prance into Wrigley this weekend and somehow spank the daylights out of then.
I too miss the PM feature, where you really got to know some of your fellow posters, Carioca. Maybe Brian will contemplate it’s return? That 500+ with only one “lone” topic initiation, is out of respect to the board. You guys are the experts and not me. BUT….if I had the name “TheLonleyBull” bestowed upon me, I have little doubt that the “inspiration” button would be activated and I would be firing off new topics left and right. The namings of individuals is really a quite interesting phenomena. Want your child to grow up to be a rugged rough sort who excels in sports such as football and rugby? Slap him with the name “Nick”, “Rocco”, “Hunter” or “Gunner” and you’re three quarters of the way home. Want your son to be a more gentler soul who may gravitate towards endeavors such as playing the flute or chess? Simply name the little guy “Goodwin”, “Benjamin” or “Theodore”. With these thoughts in mind, you can see why I’m so intent on getting my mitts on such a distinguished name as TheLonleyBull. If successful, you can expect to bid adios to the old Pugs and usher in a new poster, chalk full of great new ideas and thoughts about this game that we all so cherish.
Amazing that you mention Herb Alpert & The TB, Nyquist! As a child, that’s the only music my father listened to. I can now vividly recall the lyrics as if it were 1970. Thanks for that! As far as being smitten with the TheLonleyBull….who could blame me? The name just blows my mind. I’ve never heard the name before. TheLonleyDog, TheLonleyMoose, TheLonleyAntelope….they don’t work, but TheLonleyBull is pure genius. I’m waiting to hear from TheLonleyBull as to if he’s game for a name switch….at a price of course. He can pretty much name his price.
Here here, TLB! (That’s “TheLonleyBull” to the layman)! If one bends an ear towards the south-east, you can almost hear the hushed voice repeating the words “Send St. Clair to Palm Beach where he will continue to flourish….send St. Clair to Palm Beach where he will continue to flourish”. As a quick aside, isn’t the name “TheLonleyBull” a true classic! So much so that I would be willing to purchase that name from TLB and put the name “Pugs” out to pasture. I guess the first step would be to ask Brian that if I were to come to a financial agreement with TLB, would he make allowances for the name change to take place??
You serious, Cardinals2016??? I was there once years ago and I vividly recall driving across this river bridge that went on longer than a Luke Weaver pitched inning. No way the Illinois river has that kind of width. I’ll look it up. If it isn’t on the Mississippi, then let’s look at maybe relocating to QC. I used to love that ballpark….the smell of the grass…..brass spitoons in the hotel lobbies…..zillions of those mayflies pestering the heck out of you at certain times every summer.
