It would have been nice to have Poncedeleon to pitch. It would have been a good situation to see what he could do.
Hell at this point I’m in the view of just using position players for the rest of the game. Why burn a reliever for this trash heap of burning shit.
Another wise move by Matheny. Pinch hit for the pitcher in the 5th inning of a 11-1 game after the pitcher throws only 19 pitches.
Marp and Ozuna are both about to pass Pham in OPS. They’ve both done relatively well but Pham’s decline is a big part of why the offense has stalled out lately. He probably needs moved down to 5-6 in the order until he straightens out.
Not having Dejong and the lack of a couple consistent run producing bats has hurt too. Then again we’ve been down this road before…..
What can you do at this point? The team cant get 3-4 guys rolling on offense and hasn’t done it all season. IF we end up playing .500 ball or 1-2 game under through this rough stretch of games we should do some cartwheels. Then we’d have a few games before the break and then that 5 game series where we’ll likely get our taints kicked in again and reality will set in.
Can’t wait to hear Matheney’s post-mortem on this game. Wacha not a good night…uncharacteristic…he’s been pitching so well…a few close plays that could have made the difference…Bader getting tagged out…Molina not getting the out on Lester’s bunt…our guys kept trying hard and were scoring runs near the end, but had a big hole to dig out of…blah, blah, blah.
What I’d like to hear: we’re not a very good team right now and can’t even execute fundamental baseball. It’s time for some big changes on the field because our starters aren’t getting the job done. Make no mistake, there are no franchise players on this team…we are going to find the best players for each position from our current roster or our farm system. Our goal is to win each game, period.
On the bright side of things Holland will be back soon. He didn’t walk anybody but he did give up a homerun to a guy who hadn’t hit a homerun all season. And by all season I mean 243 at bats…he got it on his 244th at bat.
Thanks for that inspiring report on Holland, BlackHills. And thanks a bunch for the wake-up call Euro! Took a little 2 hour siesta…..wish it had been 3 hours so As not to have caught even a glimpse of this cankor sore of a game.
CardsRedSox4Ever is absolutely right in that our team is completely void of any franchise type players ( with a grateful tip of the cap to our great catcher )……and this is a monumental problem. Have to bring Machado into the Redbird fold….just have to! Back up the Brinks truck and ink him to 7 years, Mo!!!Looks like Brebbia has some spunk in him. Gotta love that! Hope it rubs off on the other 35! ( included some coaches, managers and key front office personnel into that figure too ).
Bader’s soft liner to short with 2 mates onboard, mercifully puts this dismal affair to an end. 13-5 Bad Guys your unhappy final. You know….these cubbies have a few nice players, BUT they really aren’t that good. What does this say about our present cast though????
